Lot’s of water and some Advil or Tylenol helps. Some people like the hair of the dog method, and have a few drinks, but I wouldn’t recommend it. I hope you feel better soon!

what do they mean by, “hair of the dog”?

I used to get a bowl of Froot Loops but add beer instead of milk, and eat that up. If you don’t have any Froot Loops around the house, I’d definitely go with scamp’s suggestion!

@isteve: I hope you are being facetious. That sounds horrible. I’d almost rather have the hangover.

B.C.Powder for headache and lots of water

menudo, or something greasy works for me

As mentioned above lots of water and some sort of headache medicine. I also try to eat something light and fresh and eat slowly. Also before you eat or drink take some deep breaths. Good luck

Make sure you take B12 before you go to bed. Always works like a miracle.
Also Exedrin migrane. I swear by those things.

No, I used to do that all the time! It worked!!!

Isteve, that sounds so horrible LOL

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Don’t drink so god damn much the night before. I’ve never understood why people have to keep drinking after they’re already drunk. Its pointless and you just end up poisoning your body (hangover).

Other than that. Throwing up the night before helps purge excess alcohol from you body. Eating something like toast will also help absorb the alcohol in your blood stream and balance your sugar levels.

Make sure and stay extra hydrated as well. But in the end. Alcohol is poisonous. You drink to much, you’re bound to feel like sh*t while your body is recovering. Same thing happens when you drink antifreeze. Booze is just more socially acceptable.

In my single days of drinking every weekend I found that never mix beer and liquor. Stick with one. And before you head home after you drank your ass off try to stop and just order water. Easier said than done for some folks tho. Stop trying to party like a Rock Star

Water, anything OTC for headaches, go back to bed.

Hollister0221's avatar

yea mixing will do it. Does it to me everytime. So I stick with beer. I know my limits

I’ve heard from a few doctor friends that they will self medicate by running a few liters of IV fluids (via catheter) and give themselves a vitamin B complex injection (has to do with alcohol being processed by the liver – sorry, too pooped to think it through right now).

More alcohol :)

What works best for me is, two bc powders and a sprite. It cures me right up, everytime.

@65Stang Hair of the dog means to drink more. it doesn’t mean get drunk again, just have a sample of what you drank the night before. It’s never worked for me.

@Spargett: Right on. Just don’t drink so much or do you HAVE to get sloppy drunk to have a good time?

nocountry2's avatar

Get down on my shaky knees and SWEAR to the gods of drinking that I will never, ever be so stupid again…and then sacrifice a big fat anti-oxidant smoothie from Jamba Juice

How couldn’t forget?

Weed always helps when you wake up feeling like crap

Zaxwar91's avatar

more than the average amount of watermelon before bed, and anything for a headache. The watermelon will help with dehydration, and the headache medicine is just common sense.

peedub's avatar

I’ve heard xanax, but I would never do such things

scamp's avatar

xanax and alcohol are NOT a good combination! Ever heard the story about Karen Ann Quinlan?

peedub's avatar

No. Sorry, no harm intended.

scamp's avatar

It’s ok. I just wanted to make sure people knew that alcohol and tranquilizers don’t mix.

peedub's avatar

Yeah, right after I posted it, I thought oops, I don’t know who might take this advice. I wonder if someone can flag them self if they regret saying something.

I’m a seasoned drinker. Two 200mg advils (ibuprofin), and a glass of water BEFORE you pass out for the night. You’ll wake up feeling tired and weak, but no headache. Though, that b12 idea sounds like it’ll work like a charm, since your body loses b12 when urinating from alcohol. I’m going to try that also.

lesllc's avatar

Taking ibuprofen will definitely help treat the symptoms after you’ve got the hangover. Careful, though, as it can put you at risk for stomach bleeding.

To help prevent symptoms you can try supplements containing N-acetyl-cysteine that will help to prevent the hangovers. You can find them at your local market or purchase one specifically created for hangovers such as this hangover cure.

The best advice, of course, is to avoid one by either abstaining or drinking in moderation. However, the problem is an new one.

“The ancient Greeks thought that eating cabbage would cure a hangover and the ancient Romans thought that eating fried canaries would do the same. Today, some Germans eat a breakfast of red meat and bananas, some French drink strong coffee with salt, some Chinese drink spinach tea, some Puerto Ricans rub half a lemon under their drinking arm, some Haitians stick 13 black-headed needles into the cork of the bottle from which they drank, and some Russians drink vodka in an effort to cure hangovers. None of these ‘cures’ is effective either.”
