Can you still write?
Or are you, like me, so used to typing that writing makes your wrist hurt for days?
I just sat an exam (we can debate the sadness of me leaving fluther for a full 2 hours to go sit my 1.5hr exam later) and ended up writing 7–8 pages worth, of what was essentially mostly nonsense, but nonetheless my wrist is killing me and I’m sure it’ll be worse tomorrow.

Not very well. I’ve noticed how impatient I get with it. I took final in college that was close to 3 hours. I remember having to take breaks and shake out my hand. It was awful, the cramps just coming back.
I have to say that I prefer writing to typing. I type type type all day, but I’m much more comfortable with writing something out. Especially if it is something that I have to learn, I feel like I remember the material much better when I write it versus typing.
I love writing, way more than typing. I try to write in a journal as much as I can, because I think its important to get all your thoughts down, whenever and whereever
Well I’ve always had dyslexia, so the computer has been nice since it can usually figure out what I mean and correct me. But I love writing. I think that computers provide too much convenience. Grammar and spelling have become afterthought, if at all. When you write with your hands there is no F7 so you have to learn and adjust. We have become to reliant on our technology.
I’ve always had this with writing, even before I used a computer, so yeah, I can still write as well as I used to (even better, since I’ve improved my handwriting).
Though I find typing much easier and quicker than writing (and I really miss Ctrl+Z when writing), as hollywoodduck, for learning, I feel writing works so much better. And I don’t really mind handwriting anyway.
I really like writing as long as I have some focus or am answering a Fluther question ;). To me writing is a much better communication medium than speaking since there is no eraser when you talk.
I can write sooooooo much more quickly than type, so I tend to type a lot less. I do drafts of papers on physical paper, write myself actual stickies, etc. So basically, I’m the opposite; if I spend all day at the computer typing, my wrists hurt.
I think writing for one and a half hours will make your hand hurt either way. For my Sigma Chi entrance exam, I had to write for about six. Guess how my hand felt.
I am a lot faster at typing, but I love practicing my penmanship. I handwrite most of my essays (and even some of my blog entries) first because the computer offers too many distractions.
I would’ve interfered again sooner, but I had to go rest my wrist – and watch desperate housewives….I’m impressed so many of you still write so regularly. I only write greeting cards and post cards…..
I type relatively fast and using all 10, so for me writing is slow and painful process – but not half as painful as it will be for my professor to have to read my crow-feet…..
What do you write and where?
dro, flee, velcro c*nt, i write wherever i am. portland or, nashville, chattanooga, lawrenceburg tn, the big easy, tempe az
Like peedub, my already poor penmanship has gotten far worse and painful these days. I would also like to point out that typing on mac keyboards is sooo much easier and quieter than typical PC keyboards. The low profile keys and unobtrusive murmur make typing very fluid and comfortable.
totally agree…..the gentle tapping is almost soothing…
@wildflower – the reason I still write regularly is because I have to write essays for English at school. I suppose when I’m done it’ll crawl down to a minimum.
I get hand cramp lots when i write by hand XD
It’s a real pain in tests at school…
I type a lot, but I’m in 5th grade, so I have to write. Plus, my parents say I should write my stories by hand.
