Do you think that gas prices will go above $4.00 a gallon?

Regular unleaded is $4.23 about a mile from my work.

Its $4.09 in New York, and deisel is around $4.75. To answer your question, it already has.

In California it’s been more than $4 for over a month.

Where I live in PA it is currently $3.75. I feel lucky compared to you guys. Yikes!

Is Penn like New Jersey in that it doesnt have/ has an extremely low gas tax?

I recently moved to an apartment that is within 1 mile of my workplace, and I am looking to purchase a motorbike for regular travel, and use my car for carting things around. Otherwise I walk or use a bicycle.

I am also opting to use Amazon.com to have dry goods shipped to me rather than shopping and using gas. Let the shipping companies use gas – not me!

It’s about $3.89 here, but I was in Eureka/Arcata a while ago and it’s $4.10 there.
I think it has something (not everything, but something) to do with the fact that the oil companies are Bush’s buddies. It seems like they’re just trying to make as much profit as possible before he leaves office. Just my opinion…

$4.00 in upstate NY, which has a large tax. Slightly less in MA. But then, I have to drive the 20 miles there.

maybe eventually but if your taking a global perspective then it already has. In japan last summer it was around 5 dollars a quart

I just paid $4.79 in California. I hated life and wanted to pay a dominatrix hundreds to be raped by a chainsaw, just to remind myself there are worse things one can pay for. Unfortunately she never showed up because she didnt have gas money.

Paid $4.22 in Chicago’s west burbs today.

My question is why does it keep going up, there is no “shortage” honestly, if you actually do your research people just say that for a reason to get everyone to believe thats why prices are going up, there is no shortage at all… whats with the prices?!

@XCNuse: i think that is a very good question that you should post outside of this one.

@XCNurse, there are three factors:

1) rising tensions in the middle east. Every time a rumor is floated about us bombing Iran, the price goes up. One was just floated yesterday, about us parking 6 battle groups in the Persian gulf; over 50% of our total naval forces. Totally not true (it would be suicide), but there ya go.

2) Rampant speculation in the commodities market. There a lot of investors who don’t know what to do with their money, as many traditional venues are no longer considered safe. So much of it is chasing the next bubble, which appears to be in commodities.

3) The Big One: The dollar is rapidly losing value against other currencies. As long as this continues, prices will go up. As for why the dollar is going down, it’s because other countries are losing trust in our economy (which is reasonable because wall street has become a faith based market built on a foundation of financial lies).

Current price in Ireland is the equivalent of 6.85 USD per Gallon…..

It already is much more than US$4 per gallon in many places, just not in America. Here in Australia petrol costs about the equivalent of US$5.30/gallon, and according to wildflower it’s even worse in Ireland.

@megan, no I don’t live right. That’s still too expensive for me. The day I’ll be satisfied is the day ittl just take me 20$ to fill up my tank.

In the UK petrol is £5 a gallon so thats what.. nearly $10. Its nearly as expensive as mineral water.

In Seattle yesterday. $4.199 for mid range regular. All low priced regular was gone.

Another question…....why add on the .9 to the prices!

looks like I’m in better shape than all of you…our gas is at about $3.59 in Memphis, TN. I remember when I first started driving and the cheap gas was $0.89. I had a 12 gallon tank, so I was able to fill up with about 10 bucks…now I have a 17 gallon tank and it costs about 60 bucks to fill up!

@ Allie ~ I know, it’s really looking like that documentary on CNN is coming to a reality. Did you see it last year? It predicted by the end of 2008 fuel would be too high for people to make long trips over the Thanksgiving holiday.

mcbealer: No, I must have missed that documentary. Sounds interesting though, and not far fetched at all. Right now I commute 30 minutes each way to class M-F. It kills me when I have to fill my tank. Sometimes I cringe when I look at the display and the numbers keep climbing. Thankfully, next quarter I’m going to a college about 10 minutes from my house. Then the next quarter after that I’m moving into an apartment in the same city as the school and I’ll be able to just ride a bike to classes. No more filling up every four/five days.
Side note: I peeked at the display for this guy who was filling up next to me the other day. He was driving a huge pickup. It reached $183 by the time I left and was still going… Poor guy.

mcbealer: I’m going to watch it. Also, I think it’s kind of sad that they call it “America’s addiction to oil.” I know that is very true, but there are so many people who/places where there are efforts to change this. I hope there is a part in the documentary where they focus on what is being done to combat our addiction. That’s the part I would be most interested in. (P.S. – Thank you for the link.)

The House just passed a bill today to sue OPEC for limiting oil supply and organizing to increase prices. It was quickly met with opposition from the White house.

Acc’ding to my daughter, in Vancouver she is paying about $4.85/gal,. But we had to go from litres to gallons and I don’t trust either of our math skills.

Here (NYS), we just passed the $4.00 mark for regular.

I live on Long Island and gas has been over $4.00 regular for a while. The cost of living here is so much higher than upstate…

Of course it met from opposition from the White House. First, who wants to piss off OPEC at a time when we’re pretty much reviled in all oil-producing countries, and second, where the hell are they going to try it? Federal and state courts have no jurisdiction, and my understanding is that the WTO won’t get involved.
