What do you think of the new red text?

I find it confusing – too similar to the links. You’ll end up clicking it thinking it’s a link and accidentally giving lurve to someone you didn’t intend to!

It will only for those answers that have a red GA, the rest will be more likely to be overlooked. And it IS confusing – I thought they were links, too, and was afraid to click on them. Anyway, it just seems exemplary of favoritisim rather than the collective opinion.

Now I see it. Don’t think I like it—there’s enough emphasis on the “great answers” as it is.

If there’s a pattern to the redness, I don’t see it. In this thread, some are red, others are not…...I hope this is just a test drive – it takes the attention away from the answers themselves! (admittedly I’m very easily distracted by bright and shiny things, but I’m sure I’m not the only one)

Bad design. I just gave 2 people lurve without intending to. People are going to click on it just to see what it is. Worse, it will have an amplifying effect on the lurve; people will be drawn to answers that are marked red and possibly ignore those that aren’t.

@wildflower, the pattern there, as I see it, is that if it’s YOU with the GA, or someone talking to YOU, or about YOU, then those are kept basic gray.

Now, how do you appease that? ;-D

Well, I do like the idea of drawing attention to the GA’s. But agree that this particular implementation is a bit coarse.

The red catches your eye, drawing your focus below the text that is the great answer, so then you have scan back up to actually read it.

The highlighting right now happens for answers that the asker marks as great.

It is supposed to be eye-catching, so you can see at a glance good answers on the question.

We may tweak the algorithm/execution.

just a thought, but maybe it should be a different colour to avoid the link-confusion…(blue or the dark aqua-green that’s used on the site would be nice)

Frightened the life out of me. I saw in under one of my answers and nearly fell off my chair. Didn’t know what was going on.

@scamp, I agree… really enjoy seeing the new functionalities coming online, whatever their form.

I feeling rather negatively toward it, too. I guess I’m just not too keen on things that are going to draw special attention to a particular answer any more than the others. Somehow it gives the impression that it’s special in some way, while it’s primarily special to the asker. Personally I don’t think any attention at all needs to be drawn to the line where the information is contained, otherwise I’m inclined to believe as johnpowell does, that it may somehow produce skewed results.

I agree with the idea. The implementation will take some getting used to. Could you maybe make the background color change instead of the link color? Something subtle.

takes away the asker’s privacy to give lurve to whoever they want without being noticed. i haven’t decided whether I feel this as a good thing or a bad thing though. Because in one way, its good to know if the asker feels your answer didn’t help them, so that you could expand on it. But what if the asker gets an answer which they think is “adequate” but not “great”? they might feel the pressure to give lurve anyway. I really don’t care though, I am a little finger happy when it comes to giving lurve.

I think it is a good thing. It is actually nice to know when you actually helped the person asking for help.

Maybe they could add an extra star to denote that the OP gave a great answer to you.

While I agree that it’s nice to know that the asker appreciates certain answers, I don’t like the idea that there’s special attention drawn to it.

Maybe even if the asker of the question who gives a great answer awards six or seven points instead of five. I’m not even sure if that would even be possible, but the answerer would be able to see it easily reflected in their score.

I’d prefer something more subtle, like bolding or italicizing the “Great Answer” link. So I could pick it out if I were looking for it, but it would be so distracting if I weren’t looking for it.

Could there be an unintended consequence of more answers being given to those who tend to be heavy handed with lurve? as opposed to those who aren’t. Will people pay less attention to those questions?

But it seems the different color, or any different color, is going to draw the eye naturally to those specific answers, which doesn’t seem like a particularly good idea, to have one answer stand out more than another.

Now I know to answer questions asked by cheebdragon because she give lurve to everyone!

I’m not going to bother with questions asked by people who don’t give out lurve as freely.

I love the red text on great answers. It allows me to quickly glance and see which ones others thought were great.
