I saw one the other day I’m serious because it was to high to be a blimp,to chromey and big to be a plane,and to big to be a weather baloon

Uh, I don’t believe in UFOs in the way that they are usually portrayed. But I agree that we are likely not alone in the universe.

Are you familiar with the Drake Equation? If not, you should be.

The Drake Equation represents an estimation of the number of civilizations in the universe with whom communication may be possible. It is estimated by multiplying (the average rate of star formation in our galaxy) by (the fraction of those stars that have planets) by (the average number of planets that can potentially support life per star that has planets) by (the fraction of the above that actually go on to develop life at some point) by (the fraction of the above that actually go on to develop intelligent life) by (the fraction of civilizations that develop a technology that releases detectable signs of their existence into space) by (the length of time such civilizations release detectable signals into space).

The last time I calculated this, based on intelligent estimations of each of those numbers, I’m pretty sure I got something between 5 and 10 other civilizations in our universe.

I want to believe in UFO’s, but I am troubled by the question of distance travelling and how the space craft are powered. I do not believe we are alone in the universe, but I am not convinced we are being visited either. If someone could bend the space-time continuum or find me a wormhole then I might become a believer.

according to some accounts I have read on UFOs they can switch directions up, down, left, and right spontaniously so I think they might dwell in other dimensions:)

I certainly believe there are UFOs and I do believe there may be other civilizations in the universe. But, although I can not rule it out, I rather doubt we are being visited by aliens. UFOs are just flying or floating objects which can not be identified by the observer. That does not mean they can not be identified by someone with more knowledge or experience or merely a better vantage point or with better viewing conditions. The latest military jets can do incredible things such as vertical take-off and landing, hover in place like a helicopter and do climbs and rolls and stalls previously unimaginable. All that and more plus they have futuristic stealthy configurations and are able to reduce noise emission to remarkably low levels. The F-117 is old technology now (the government does not admit the existence of the newest high tech aircraft or latest technologies). Just imagine how many people would have reported a UFO sighting if they happened to see an F-117 in a test or on a mission. In addition, the Department of Defense is spending tons of money developing unmanned air vehicles for reconnaisance, combat and other missions. And, these are being developed in all kinds of shapes and sizes and are being tested all the time. There is also non-military R&D happening with rather large blimp-type vehicles for commercial transporting and for environmental and weather monitoring. I can only imagine that most UFO sightings are these types of vehicles while others may simply be the result of observer fatigue, poor viewing conditions or in some cases perhaps one too many shots of tequila.

The question asks about “belief.”

I prefer to speculate based on evidence. Myself and a group of people saw something we can’t explain, and that would therefore qualify as a UFO. However, I don’t “believe” in UFOs any more than I “believe” in stars.

Let’s stick to debate based on evidence, and we’ll be a whole lot better off.

i can’t believe in something that i haven’t seen. though the drake equation looks convincing, once i see a UFO (or see videos on the news), then i will happily admit that i didn’t believe and was wrong. until then….
