you should mention the genres you like and the names of some movies you like since it varies for each person. for me personally, having the 3 Bourne movies (Bourne Identity, Supremacy and Ultimatum – Matt Damon movies) was crucial for my lazy days in college. if you talk more about your likes/dislikes, i am sure i could suggest something more personalized to you.
I like most kinda of movies besides romantic comedys.. and “girly” movies I guess youd say. My top 5 favs are: Ferris Bueler’s Day Off, Detroit Rock City, Smiley Face, The Wedding Singer, and Juno
Young Frankenstein, Ed Wood, The Omen (original version), The Exorcist (also original version), Old School, Animal House, Top Gun, Kill Bill, Once Upon A Time In Mexico, Edward Scissorhands, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (original), Benny & Joon… I could go on forever.
I just finished watching my favorite movie of all time Gallipoli – Many have never heard of it, but it is a great film.
The Crow, Batman Begins, Indiana Jones (all)
The Godfather Parts I and II, The Usual Suspects, Peggy Sue Got Married, Enter the Dragon.
Blazing Saddles
and it’s pronounced “Headly.”
Jeesh this a popular question….........
Captain Ron, Big Trouble in Little China, and The Jerk.
Funny movie – Good Burger
Awesome movie – The 300
Finding neverland, blades of glory
Blazing Saddles, Animal House, Caddy Shack, Airplane
I forgot Faat Times at Ridgemont High

Good answer AC: Blazing Saddles, absolutely!!! Hello boys!
I’m with y’all I said y’all Allie, Cheeb, jballou, shrubbery esp…
But dont leave out Ronin, Super Troopers, Half Baked (and everything with Cheech, Chong, or Cheech and Chong in it, except maybe Tin Cup) A Christmas Story and its sequel, My Summer Story, and the entire Evil Dead series.
I would take Casablanca even though it makes me want to smoke. And booze. And be noble.
I always seem to end up watching it alone, though.
Heh,I like jballou’s answers. I would also recommend getting movies that you really like that aren’t as popular, because others are less likely to have them(assuming you live with roommates or in a dorm). So your favorite independent films. I recommend “The Boondock Saints”
Celebrity – Woody Allen
Match point – Woddy Allen
Cruel Intentions – Roger Kumble
The Beach – Daniel Boyle
Trainspotting – Daniel Boyle
Those films leave you with interesting ideas for your free time – also, get some books with you, Baudelaire & Dostoievsky are the great options for rainy days… Those books & films have been with me during my college years, can’t believe I’m almos done :)
Dirty Dancing
Footloose
Flashdance
Breakfast Club
St. Elmo’s Fire
Pretty in Pink
Top Gun
Fame
Casablanca
Top Hat
Follow the Fleet
White Christmas
High Society
Oops, almost forgot:
Shaun of the Dead
Hot Fuzz
The Party
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
And any of the old James Bond (up to and including Roger Moore)
knotmyday- Is My Summer Story an alternate title for It Runs in the Family or is there another Jean Shephard film I don’t know about?
Chuck, according to the IMDB page, they are one and the same. Look at the icons.
I had no idea…
Also, this movie prompted me to buy Jean Shephard’s book In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash, which really lends itself more to to reading aloud than just casual reading. Kinda thick prose.
I was stunned to find that the movie was panned…maybe it was the cast change.
@Wildflower- White Christmas? High Society? my hat is off, the brim is sweeping the floor.
two words:
wayne’s world.
I say forget the commercial movies and go with classic cult/obscure movies.Things others will be less likely to have seen. That way you’ll be cool and popular, I mean we’re talking college right? Just a few off the top of my head:
‘Beyond the Valley of the Dolls’,
‘The Wicker Man’ (1973),
‘The Harder They Come’,
‘Re-animator’,
‘The 5000 Fingers of Dr T’,
‘Neighbours’,
‘Performance’,
‘This is Spinal Tap’,
‘Peewee’s Big Adventure’,
‘Chinese Ghost Story’.
tupara- The Harder They Come is a great movie! I happen to be a huge Jimmy Cliff fan.
He’s the epitome of cool in that movie.
peewees big adventure? Really???
Yes! PeeWee rocks! My beau and I were remeniscing about that film recently :-D
Never Cry Wolf
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Oh Brother Where Art Thou?
Dead Man
Barfly
My Dog Skip
