I like the ones that leave more to my imagination.
My Top 3
The Omen
The Exorcist
The Ring
The Devils Rejects
The Changling
The Shining
House of 1000 Corpses and the original Halloween.
I LOVE horror movies. Favorite is impossible; however, the freakiest, most disturbing movie I have ever seen is Feed. This movie actually gave me a dry heave. And I have seen a lot of sick shit.
Beast pretty much nailed it but I might add Susperia, although that isn’t as much scary as just aesthetically and sonically amazing.
The original Texas Chain Saw Massacre is certainly creepy.
Rob Zombie sucks.
I grew up in the hey day of horror movies with a VCR in the house, and a mother who didn’t mind renting five movies at a time. Pretty much lived on the original Halloween, Friday the 13th series, the Fog, John Carpenter’s Thing, all the zombie movies that I can’t keep straight, and on and on and on. Even had a subscription to Monster magazine. Or, at least I think that was the name.
Bloosucking Freaks. If you have never seen it find a copy. Its about a man called Sardu who has a performing arts theatre off Broadway. His assistant is a midget named Ralphus. There shows involve sawing off body parts of women they have enslaved in the basement and murdering people for fun. favorite line from Bloodsucking Freaks, “Her mouth will make an interesting urinal.”
Nosferatu, soundtrack by Type O Negative. Every Halloween I make a tableau in my garage with this movie playing on an old tv. Good stuff.
The original Night of the Living Dead in glorious black & white, just as God and George A. Romero intended.
I agree with peedub. When its left to your imagination, your going to come up with what scares you most.
REC. Give it a go, really really scary movie. It’s in spanish though. Even still it’s a fantastic movie.
