How do you get into a chat room on this site?

You can bookmark the link to the chat room. Just warning you that you need to bookmark the actual chat link, not the one that shows up in your web browser. If you ask a mod who is in there, they can give you the link to the room. When the link pops up in the chat window, right click it and save that as a bookmark. Are you one of the AVers? If so, the link to the room with all the other AVers is https://fluther.campfirenow.com/ae568. (Right click that, and save as bookmark.)

I’m not really sure why you have to ask for a link to get to the chatroom..it has been asked several times and everyone seems real secretive about it…it seems like they should post the link if they want people to use it. I’ve been here since Dec 2007 and that has always confused me.

ccattron if you’ve ever been in the chatroom w/ zack, you would know why ppl are so secretive about it. it’s not the most fun place to be when you can’t have a conversation because someone just keeps typing in obscenities over and over again. it gets to the point where you’re not even offended, just annoyed.

From a chatroom, can you break off and have a private chat with one of the people there?

Nope, but I suppose you could use the PM system on Fluther itself.

So now that the Askville chatroom is closed, what’s the link to other chatrooms and how would I find them had I not asked this?

I can’t find the Askville chatroom anymore myself, Mr_M! I think I’m just going to stick to Emails. These Facebook/Fluther sites are just too darn complicated! Please Email me at your earliest convenience, as my address book crashed, and I lost it!

I found and bookmarked Allie’s link (within my browser) and went to the supposed Askville “chat room” and it’s “dead as a doornail”! I think the Askville disenchanted are now disenchanted, here, too! I know some are still on Facebook, but I think that that offshoot is dying, too!

I won’t be coming back to Askville, so Emailing may be our only answer!

the askville room isn’t closed yet! They extended it till Tues or Wed, depending on when our suspension is up. Which has probably caused some confusion here whether we can use it or not. But it’s there, just no one is in it!

I don’t think so. I tried getting into it today (Sat., 8/9/08) and it said closed. Then I tried a different chatroom and it didn’t accept my email and/or password.

The chatroom situation on this sight should not be considered acceptible to the moderators here, in my opinion.

The AskVille chat is available at https://fluther.campfirenow.com/c9fc8 . Sorry for the confusion. Someone recycled the URL. (This is why we’re waiting on the integrated, Fluther-based chat, instead of making too big of a hoo-hah about Campfire. It’s also expensive for what it is.)

Why was I getting the message re: wrong email or password when I tried to get into a non-Askville chatroom here?

What URL were you using? I’ll send you a message with the new one. We keep it private deliberately, since we have no way to ban offensive people.

I know you keep it private and why. Yesterday I sought out the public chatroom here to get away from Askville chat. A moderator gave it to me. Whatever it was, it asked for my email and password, then didn’t accept it.
