I would love to learn how to garden, but have no yard. Is there a community garden in San Francisco near the Lower Haight where I could do this, with my own plot? I'd be willing to pay a little money for the space, if it were nearby...

occasionally, kid power park in the mission has a spot. i think that parks and rec now runs the community garden system -- check their website.
Do you have a balcony? You can have fun w. large pots for both flowers and veggies. I am eating cherry tomatoes from a plant in a pot next to a deck chair...I have basil growing w. them so I reach out and pick my snack. Our local country store grows baby lettuce in window boxes and sells them as mesclun.
