Yeah, yeah…We all know that chocolate and peanut butter are delicious together. But do you enjoy any more obscure – maybe unlikely – flavor combos that the rest of us should know about? Please share.

I cut lemons in half and salt them, or sometimes if I’m not in the mood to squeeze a lemon umpteen billion times I’ll juice the lemon, supersaturate the liquid with salt and sip it
something that’s in my crockpot at home right now: 1 can of condensed cream of mushroom and one can of French onion mixed.
Fresh broccoli and chocolate icing. Yummy!

McDonalds french fries dipped in vanilla milkshake…or really any salty, crispy thing with any sweet, creamy thing (pretzels or peanuts and ice cream, peanuts and candy corn, etc.)

Everyone I know thinks this is gross but I just love Peanut Butter, Grape Jelly and Mayonnaise sandwiches. I liked them even before I got pregnant the first time and now that I no longer can get pregnant I like them even more. Weird I know.
my dad swears by PB&J with ham… and it sounds heinous, but I tried it and it’s really not that bad. I wouldn’t make one for myself, but if I had to eat one, I wouldn’t vomit either.
Maple syrup sausages. Try ‘em, they’re delicious.

My husband likes chili with a peanut butter (crunchy) sandwich. My daughter likes cucumbers and chocolate cake (very odd). I like to take 1/4 dill pickle and wrap ham and cheese around it. Also, mashed potatoes and peas.

@McBean It gives the chocolate a nice texture and a small bitter flavor, but mostly you don’t taste the broccoli. I just love the texture.

@indy, you’re soo funny. you can’t imagine eating a salt and vinegar potato chip but you love your omelettes with ziti, etc. Classic. It does sound good though…. maybe with some fried potatoes?

How could I forget?! My mom is an awesome cook, she makes her own yummy bolognese sauce. She made this fritatta once with leftover spaghetti that had her sauce mixed in. Scrambled eggs and spaghetti (with sauce). I know it sounds weird, but it’s seriously good. I made it myself once (her sauce of course) and yummmm.

everything is actual home cooking except the choc mousse/gran marnier desert—that was from a guide michelin 3 star restaurant en Provence in 1972 (and I still remember it like it was yesterday!)
Peanut butter and pickle sandwiches! YUM! I try to convince so many people to try them, but no one is open-minded enough to do it, so they won’t ever know what they’re missing out on, and missing out they are! I’ve loved them since I was little, you should totally try it!
Also: Popcorn dipped in spicy salsa – which actually isn’t that odd.
Last but not least: Bananas dipped in spicy salsa. Sounds very bizarre, but my best friend made me try it one day and it’s not bad at all.
maple sugar and pickles! The pickle flavor (what’s the word for that?) cuts the incredible sweetness of the maple sugar, and you can eat a lot more (should you want to).

Camembert is one of my favs. Have you ever tried cambazola? The consistency of camembert with an infusion of gorgonzola….‘nuff said.
I make these apps. using a balsamic-glazed leek/vidalia onion confit over baby cambazola en croute…..decadent!!!!
Man! All this cheese is making me gassy. I guess I’m just jealous. I can do goat cheese though.

Poutine is a French-Canadian concoction which utilizes a myriad of fats to form a cohesive mess of yumminess.
Fries….the crispier the better
Curd cheese…..right on top of the fries
Gravy…..poured liberally over the fries and curd…it melts the cheese and sends you straight to ‘clogged artery’ heaven.
To many it sounds inpalatable, but trust me, it’s incredibly delish!
Moderation is the key! Those arteries don’t mind every so often.
It sounds and looks like heaven to me. I just don’t know where I would find cheese curds.

A good substitute, one that I use when curd is unavailable is grated cheese. Preferably havarti, or mozza….Mozzarella is quite bland though. You want something with a definitive flavour. Whatever floats yer boat I guess.

Try it sometime though. I’d be interested in hearing some feedback. Anybody I’ve ever divulged the ‘classic’ Canajun dish to is initially apalled by the abundance of ‘stuff’....until they taste it…...then they’re on their collective knees begging for forgiveness!

@mee_ouch, I have never heard of…cambazola, but it most definitely sounds like a winner. I find that I am becoming lactose intolerant—ie, must use nonfat milk. But so far yogurt and cheese is fine. If cheese becomes a problem, life will not be worth living.
re: poutine, I am reminded of my buddy Jorge. He likes french fries with cheese melted on them then he puts a couple fresh sunny-side up eggs over the whole mess. I used to tell him he was a heart attack on a popsicle stick.
@mee ouch: I actually used to have horrible migraines as a teen, but they stopped after I had my children thankfully. I now only get one about once a year, so I can have my wine and chocolate.

I wish you luck the lactose intolerance infiltration. Two of my three boys were born with it. I didn’t realize it at all with no. 1 (of the two) and he was a whirling dervish…for a very long time. A whole range of behaviour issues. He’s he’s a wonderful young man now. With the baby, he exhibited the same behaviours from day 1. I let it continue for 5 weeks, then realized it was obviously an allergy to ‘my milk’. He simply couldn’t tolerate it. So I put him on soy formula and the very first day he slept straight through the night and his entire disposition reversed. Amazing transformation. Watch out for yourself, Lars. .........Don’t deny yourself either! Moderation!
Barbie…..You’re incredibly fortunate to have rid yourself of this nasty malady. Once again, my eldest was inundated with them from the age of 7. I’d never felt so utterly helpless in my life. Thankfully he’s been experiencing them less and less as he ages.

@Shrubbery I’m in love with vegemite and cheese myself. Celery with sugar sprinkled on it, yummo, my mum used to give them that one as a snack all the time.
Grape jelly and yellow mustard sandwich. Try it before you ‘dis it. My grand father taught me this one. RIP G.G.
@tekn: Wow. You know, though, I believe that grape jelly, mustard and ketchup is supposed to make a great sauce for cocktail sausages. In fact, I think I just saw something like that on Sam the Cooking Guy.
My grandfather used to make buttery scrambled eggs and he and I would eat them with a blob of grape jelly on the side. As an adult (and a mom) I serve them with strawberry preserves instead.
Grape soda and bar-b-q Fritos. Lived on it in college.
I love Honey BBQ Frito Twists! I’ve just never tried them with grape soda. Sounds good, though.

Hmm, it’s Australian owned but it is a franchise and they do have stores all over the world but I couldn’t tell you if there’s one in San Diego sorry. Some other American Flutherites have mentioned a store where they can get Vegemite but I can’t remember where I’m sorry. I mean it is owned by Kraft so it shouldn’t be too hard to find. If you can find it, try a tiny little bit on toast. I stress tiny. It’s a strong taste and you can’t rush yourself into it because you may be put off forever. And here‘s a recipe for the scrolls :)

Every Saturday night when I was a kid, it was me, my dad’s recliner, a bottle ‘o the ‘grape’ (soda that is), a bag of fritos and Carol Burnett. That for me was a ritual for years…

Tropical punch Kool-Aid and salty potato chips go really well together, I just discovered last night.
Wow, you guys have the food covered. I’ll think I’ll just top it all off with an E Nobel Petit handrolled in Denmark cigarillo of Sumatra tobacco with a demitasse of authentic (darn near chewy) Turkish coffee as served on the streets of Istanbul. Two very bold, yet heartwarming tastes.

Long time ago when I actually ate bologna, I had to have ketchup on my bologna sandwishes. Now I get the horrors thinking about all the bologna and hot dogs I ingested. The were Hebrew Nationals, but I still get the whim-whams thinking about it.

Anybody have fried bologna sandwiches as a kid? My grandfather used to cut a little notch in the bologna slice and sprinkle it with sugar before frying it up. After that, it was slapped on cheap white bread with Miracle Whip (not even real mayo). I haven’t had one of those since I was 9 or 10.

I don’t think I ever had ‘real’ mayo growing up. Believe it or not, there are still several things I still use Miracle Whip for. ......It’s got a certain ‘kick’ that real mayo can’t duplicate.
Oh, mee_ouch… Sounds like you had yours with good bread. The bread we used was so gummy it would record your fingerprints if you pressed hard enough. :-)
Oh people, I used to do that, too. Balogna with the notch. Miracle whip. My Mom’s homemade white bread. Except I’d also melt some cheese on it.
My dad used to cut thick slices of Bermuda onion and sandwich them between gobs of MW and butter on this bread….you could smell him coming….before, during and after..

I dunno. Onions on my own breath—fairly tolerable. On someone else’s breath? I think not! Actually, I feel like I’ve been eating onions now; but I haven’t been!

I’ve had MW and onion sandwiches before, but I sliced the onions really thin and didn’t use butter. I did this out of curiousity because a man that came into the hotel I worked at used to order them all the time. I like MW and tomato sandwiches better tho.
Mash up bananas, peanut butter and strawberry jam. Spread on two waffles to make a waffle sandwich. Portable breakfast of champions.

Macaroni & cheese mixed with pork-n-beans! NOT like chili mac. There’s something about the sauce that results that is so yummy and comforting!
My theory: coconut + carrots. Haven’t tested it yet, though. But I imagine those would mix pretty well, not the least, perhaps in a drink?
Strawberry with some chocolate chip melted. you can buy the chocolate chips. Alot of people melt the chocolate chips in the microwave and others boil it untill. well then you dip the strawberry and let it cool off for 10–15 minutes or untill it cool.

@makemo – coconut and carrots do indeed taste good together. IMHO, the best carrot cake has a generous amount of coconut thrown into the batter as well. I’ll bet that a creamy, curried carrot soup would be delicious as well. (I’m talking more of a Thai curry, here, with coconut milk and a bit of good spiciness!)
