does popping/cracking your knuckles actually cause any damage to your body?

I heard that that the popping was caused by small bubbles of air trapped in your joints, but that doesn’t sound very likely…
Actually, the noise you hear is the air moving from one side of the joint to the other as the synovial fluid is displaced. Pretty cool stuff and it does not cause damage to your body.

I’ve looked this up before when my mom used to tell me that it would cause arthritis when I was a kid.
If you are susceptible to arthritis, popping your joints can aggrevate or even initiate joint pain.
