Why are little kids so cute AND annoying?

Asked by sweetsugaryandohsohot (168points) October 11th, 2010

Little kids always seem to find a way to be as cute as those little flower people. Yet they are oh so annoying. Why?

They are full of wonder and excitement. They just want to explore the world around them and are very excited by anything that seems new or unusual.

However, they are not yet socialized (i.e. taught the manners and customs) and so they might do and say things that might ordinarily be considered rude or annoying.

e.g. Kid on bus (pointing at old man), “Mommy, how come that guy’s got no hair.”
Kid’s mom: “Hush, sweetie. That’s not polite.”

(But see, the kid did not know it’s rude to comment about the old man’s baldness. The kid probably just finds that interesting.)

I think they’re cute because they’re annoying and so much trouble. If they weren’t cute parents would toss them out on there butts after a few years and that would be the end of the species.

What are “little flower people”?

I think most kids are just annoying and not cute.

Someone once told me that God made babies cute so we will care for them. She meant it about human children and animals. Pretty much saying we are duped or suckered into it.

@JLeslie That’s what I’m thinking too. If they weren’t so cute who, in their right mind would put up with all the vomit and poop and chaos and destruction and just all around general background nonsense and insanity that children create? What parent, guardian or caretaker wouldn’t toss the whole lot of them out on their asses, in a minute, if they weren’t so damn cute?

Because that’s why they’re here. It’s their sole objective in life. God bless their tiny ickle pinkies! :¬)

They’re cute because they’re guileless. They’re annoying because they’re guileless. We keep on having them because something flips in our brain to persuade us that they’re wonderful, contrary to the evidence before our eyes of worry, sleeplessness, mess, chaos etcetera.

They’re cute because they’re children. If they weren’t attractive, we’d kick their asses because they’re annoying.

I think they’re annoying because they exemplify the 2nd law of thermodynamics – they create order in their own brains by creating disorder. IN. YOUR. LIVING. ROOM.

In short, kids are the lovable face of entropy.

It’s not necessarily that they’re cute for a reason, but that we find them cute for a reason. Similarly to the whole “we’d toss them out otherwise” point being made here (a very valid point) is the point that back when humans were very primitive, people evolved to find babies cute so that they didn’t, well, eat them. Yes, seriously, a scientific study showed it (although who trusts them nowadays? :D) It’s just natural selection at it finest and, well… naturalest…? ;)

Because you’re not rested and are irritable..it’s true..kids aren’t really annoying (maybe I’m biased towards mine) because they mean to be…a lot of the time, it’s because their rules of reality interrupt yours and you can do nothing else but to get annoyed…especially if you’re stressed out or busy or hungry or irritable…I know, I’ve been there and I have to remind myself that it’s mostly about me, not them.
