You can ask about anti-depressants such as SSRI’s (Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, etc). They might help you.
I agree with @papayalily. You should talk to your doc about going on an antidepressant, if you haven’t been able to overcome the depression without meds. Something to keep in mind, though… they take about 2 weeks to build up in your system to the point where you’ll notice feeling better.
It’s called life….learn to deal with it.
I’m not trying to be mean, I just don’t feel medication is the answer to everything…
Thinking outside the box here: exercise. Working out will improve your mood.
Oh, and eat well, get plenty of sleep and plenty of sunlight!
Sounds as though you need some ‘paradoxical’ advice, I’m fond of this!
Do the opposite. Do the very wrong thing… Just for now. If you are trying to study, then either ‘stop trying, just do’ as Yoda suggests, or take a proper break. Go out, get fresh air, look around you and see life in all its teeming, annoying, beautiful, awful, strange and difficult glory. Take that time for yourself, have a ‘break’ if that’s what this means to you.
Add to that some treats. Eat something nice, have a comforting drink, talk to a friend. Your ‘give a damn-ness’ may not return in one big lump, but these little things are essential for our health. Feeling that what you are doing is pointless is pretty common. Especially when studying. Taking short breaks, giving yourself a treat, some exercise, some company and focusing on short term goals can really give you a long term lift. Don’t focus on the future or the big result of your work, keep things small and close for a while, it may really help and keep you of the drugs.
Oh, and make sure you get enough sleep!
Good luck
^ My nerd-self has to say it. “Do, or do not, there is no ‘try’.”
You asked about drugs so I’ll talk about drugs. I don’t think “sleeping well and getting exercise” is the answer you’re looking for. I don’t want to discredit the value of good food, good sleep, exercise, etc. but I believe in the value of chemicals.
This is what I would do:
I would turn to Adderall and Ritalin (or any of their derivatives) first. If I was smart, I would do extensive research on this type of medication (read the sites that speak against it AND speak for it, and take the time to find a good, raw, discussion on this or another forum about it). If you are going to solve this problem with a drug, this is your best bet. If after educating yourself you disagree with this option, then don’t continue. Start eating salads.
If what you find perks your interest (as I hope it does) I wouldn’t turn to your doctor first, I would turn to the probably hundreds of kids in your community who are already prescribed these drugs (for information, of course). I don’t want to condone less than questionably legal drug exchanges, but get the hint. Then I would take the pill, and see how I feel. All I can give you is my experience and perspective, and I have had great success getting out of bad ruts, overcoming writer’s block, defeating the procrastination monster, and all other sorts of baddies of procrastination and lack of motivation with the help of this drug (I am partial to Adderall.)
There is nothing inspirational about a mountain beyond what you make of it. I could find the same glorious beauty in my trash can (and I do). What works for one person usually doesn’t work for another. This, however, works for me. It works for a lot of other people (as does exercise and diet and all that noise). This one just happens to have a high success rate endorsed by science.
tl;dr – Google search Adderall
“Seize the day, trusting as little as possible in the future”
Take a xanax.
I recommend getting more TLC.
