If someone had a dream involving your death, would you want to know?

Asked by free_fallin (4429points) October 12th, 2010

I had a dream last night involving several members of my family dying, one of which being my mother. My mother does not want the details of the dream. I don’t put much stock into dreams, though, on occasion, they seem eerily similar to events that end up happening in my life.

If I had a dream that you died in a plane crash and you were about to take a trip, would you post-pone the trip?

Just how important are the details of dreams to you?

It’s just a dream. It doesn’t mean anything foreshadowing. I had a dream I was flying a car, being chased by Sylar from Heroes…..you can’t take much stock in that now can you?

No, I would not want to know. Who needs the added worry?

wundayatta's avatar

I wouldn’t care if you told me or not. Dreams don’t have any predictive power. I would not postpone my trip over a worry dream.

Eh.

But if hot chicks have naughty, steamy dreams about moi, I’m all ears.

I’d love to, if only to find out how their mind works; it’s not like I’d be concerned by it, not unless they were a suspected mass murderer, anyway! The circumstances surrounding my death might even help inspire me with my writing or something. In summary, I’d love to know.

Nah.

Even when I did care about dream interpretation, all the books simply said that a person’s death in a dream was a symbol of feeling short in a quality that person possesses. Iif @bob_ died in my dream, it would reflect that I feel like I am seriously lacking in sandwich-appreciation skills. To dream that you kill someone is to reveal that you have an internal conflict with your emotions toward that person, and it would be beneficial to reflect on why you are angry.

Of course, that’s all hogwash, and dreams are just dreams. They don’t mean anything at all.

No. But only because I find the topic of other people’s dreams completely uninteresting.

Maybe.
I have heard one before and it was interesting.

“Meh” is a colloquilism designating a lack of interest. I quite frankly don’t care if someone has a dream about my death. I’m already under three separate death sentances, so it’s wouldn’t be too surprising if I fell over dead at any given moment. That’s why that particular input! : ))

@CaptainHarley I’m well aware of the term…

I explained, just in case. : )

Id want to know, details and all, I dont much believe that its a premonition or anything, but I guess ill can never be too careful, I mean I only have one life… and who knows, if someone had a dream about my lil brother punching me in the tummy before I left to the gas station, when I got in the car it wouldnt start the first few times, when I got to the stop sign at the end of my road a childs ball hit my door, then as im turning to go into the gas station a car hits me and I die… Even if its 8 month down the road, if any of those events fall into that order you better believe im guna make some changes to that course “just in case”. sounds silly huh…

My superstitious voice tell me no, but mymy radtional one, which thank goodness is stronger and louder, would say yes, que sera, sera. , and that’s the voice I would heed.

I think it would depend what it is in correlation with. If it was in correlation with a trip on a plane, I’m 50/50 – I wouldn’t want to think about it but at the time time I would want to know in case I got a “bad feeling” about the trip or something. If it was just a run of the mill death dream without being in correlation to anything, then sure.

As important as a flee farting.

I wouldn’t _no_t want to hear about it.
Strangely enough, I have a couple of friends who’ve told me dreams
in great detail, invloving both death and situational instances
that have later been played out exactly as the dream had-
I really can’t explain it…..
anddd on the other hand
many people have told me about their dreams that couldn’t have been further from
any form of truth…
For example: my room mate had a dream I shot and killed the guy she was seeing,
who I actually like as a person, and don’t ever see myself killing-
or anybody else for that matter….

I think dreams are interesting can occasionally be quite informative.

My mom had a dream of me dying in a car wreck, two weeks later it was my brother who was killed in a car wreck. She told me about the dream right after she had it. This happened 10 years ago.
