Refinishing furniture? Practicing a new song on your gee-tar? Throwing down some paint and winding up with a beautiful peace of art?
What is for you?

Throwing pottery,painting,wood carving,drawing,bike riding,boating,hiking,swinging from trees,throwing pies at people,kicking some ass,petting kittens,and walking for miles…I can’t just pick one ;)
Working on sudoku puzzles.
Creating art. Drawing, painting, digital, crafts, sewing.. whatever. I can’t pick one out of that list, because on different days it is a different medium that brings me joy.
Sketching and painting
Hiking
Photography, writing, excercise, excercise, excercise. Cooking too. And painting. Plus, playing my guitar. Also shooting, and boxing (on occasion, getting older)
Driving, except during rush hour, then I just want to roll some heads lol.
Playing my guitar, hanging with my kids, swimming and kicking some ass are some of my favorite things and like @lucillelucillelucille I just can’t pick just one and depends entirely on my massive mood swings! ;)
Hiking, followed by pizza, beer and a nap.
Walking, cycling and photography.
a nice bubble bath and a good book, photography, looking at beautiful photos
Running. Since you asked for only one. :)
I put a sheet into my backpack and a six pack of PBR tallboys and a book. I head to the park and drink, sleep, and read.
Working out. When I’m doing that, I’m not thinking about anything but my movements and breathing. I alternate DVD workouts that combine stretching, weights and Pilates (I especially like workouts by Ellen Barrett and Tracy Effinger) with days when I just run on the treadmill. I’m about to get off the computer and go exercise right now. :)
Photographing landscapes, cooking and experimenting with recipes, doing art projects, hiking.
Listening to violent and aggressive music. I guess it’s a paradox, but it works for me
Driving
Sight seeing
Reading
Window Shopping
Being with my Mom
Hiking
Taking photos
Sleeping
Doing absolutely nothing. :]
I would say playing the cello…But if I hadn’t been forced to do it at a young age, then maybe.
Solving problems. There is nothing more gratifying than having an issue and resolving it, no matter how minor it is. It brings a great amount of peace of mind. A personal thanks to jerv for helping me fix the electrical problem on Sunday.
Aside from the usual reading and listening to music… making grammar trees. During spring quarter, I avoided having nervous breakdowns by mapping sentences. There are pages and pages of trees in my moleskine that I jotted down instead of taking notes.
Sculpting with clay, usually miniatures.
At one point, I was working on an entire Lord of the Rings chess-set made from red clay (the Fellowship) and Phoenix clay (Sauron et. al.). Each figure was less than three inches tall. I didn’t get all of them done before the end of the school year, and a few pieces didn’t survive the kiln. I gave the survivors away as gifts. Sadly, while I do have some clay and so work with it from time to time, it’s an exercise in futility, as I don’t have access to a kiln anymore.
@bob_ : Bunches of lurve to you! There’s no better sleep than that kind. sigh.
Gardening, birding, writing, quilting, British crossword puzzles, teasing Milo, seeing indie movies, reading, playing duets on the piano (really badly) with my friend who is a shut-in, and making soup.
For me, nothing beats stress like a couple of hours at the range.
When I’m feeling especially unhappy with my job, I visit the local Microcenter and look at computer parts.
Reading first- always works, sewing, gardening.
listening to music, because then I forget about things and be a little in my own world <3 and shopping!
eating take-out while fluthering and listening to t.v. and the radio
Watching “easy” TV. I love the feeling of being able to chill out whilst watching a Michael Palin’s travel documentaries, for example, or a classic BBC comedy (my current favourite is Keeping Mum with Stephanie Cole) or something like Glee or Ugly Betty. TV that doesn’t take much brain powr and can be quite heartwarming at the same time.
Listening to music and playing my violin. Sometimes writing too
Kneading dough, eating everything.
Reading. (or doing crafty stuff, which i love doing).
Playing the matching game on “thesecret”. It gives you a sense of peace within yourself.
If you are under a little stress and depression, playing the game somehow takes it away.
Smoking pot, reading, listening to music, crying, and going on a walk by myself.
Running outside when there’s a light rain.
I love to find books that have to do with things my friends
are interested in and send one to them with a lovely hand
written note. Also reading memoirs, walking and looking
for certain rocks, painting my nails, sleeping.
