What is a good birthday present for a 60 year old woman?

Asked by LostInParadise (32186points) October 12th, 2010

My cousin’s husband is throwing her a surprise birthday party and I have no idea what to get. Could I get away with a gift certificate to a bookstore?

Do you have any photos of her as a child or access to them? My mom has several of the cousins, and I’d love it if someone gave me one in a nice frame.

No. If you are going to get a gift certificate, get it to a spa.

@josie Meh. I’m not quite 60 but I’d rather have books. You’re still excited about that pedicure, aren’t you?

Perhaps a gift certificate to a craft or hobby store if you know she enjoys those.

A 60 year old woman is an awfully generic term. Do you know what she likes to do? If not, a bookstore gift certficate is probably a safe bet.

Find out what she and her husband’s favorite restaurant is and get them a certificate worth enough for a meal for 2. Tickets to a play or a concert that you know she would like (ask her husband, friends or kids). Movie tickets for a theater near her house. If you live near the ocean, get her a pair of tickets for a dinner cruise on a harbor excursion boat. And here’s one that my parents got and loved: a potted citrus tree (depends on whether she likes plants, but if she does this one bears edible gifts).

I suggest getting to know her preferences and hobbies, too… but if all else fails, a silk scarf is always a nice gift for women, albeit somewhat generic.

A 30 year old man. I kid, I kid. I think a gift certificate or take her out for a nice meal.

@diavolobella Two 30 year old men!

@janbb. I stand corrected! LOL

I’m going to agree with the majority, a gift card to a restaurant, book store, day spa, nail salon…any one sounds great.
But the two 30 year old men…priceless.XD

At 60 she is not ancient and treat her how she actually feels inside. My mom said she was a 16 yr old trapped in a 60 yr old body and we made sure she got her groove on!! I am making plans for her 80th sky dive….don’t spoil my surprise!!

60! My Lord, you make her sound like a mummy! Give her whatever she loves, be it jewelry, books, something for a hobby, a beautiful vase, an expensive scarf, a trip… you can never go wrong giving her what she loves and enjoys or wishes for.

A forty year old man.

Why a forty year old?

andreaxjean's avatar

@perspicacious Well… if they look like Brad Pitt… I don’t think anyone really needs a reason why.

Russell_D_SpacePoet's avatar

@perspicacious I just figure everyone wants a newer model. :)

Something that makes her feel young!! A cute purse, something like that… anything you would buy a 30 year old…It will make her feel good!

My aunt is close to that age and I got her a $200 giftcard from Wal-Mart.
