How do you sell ammo legally?
I imagine I could bring it to a gunshow, but I would have to wait for one. I just have one box to sell. I don’t want to throw it away, and I know it is worth 10–20 dollars, so…what to do.
Craigslist?

My personal choice would be to flush it down the toilet, but I guess Craigslist is as good as anything. Make it a local listing though, so you can hand it off in person. You wouldn’t want to be mailing ammo.
If it is a common round, you try the local gun club.
Less likely a – a – attract unwanted attention. Craiglist is monitored.
Yeah, but is it legal to sell ammo? What is there to hide?
There are several online sites that broker gun/ammo sales. The reputable sites are pretty good at helping you understand the rules you’ll need to follow to buy or sell ammo. Gunbroker is probably the most common.
For liability reasons most gun stores will not take returns on or resell ammo that does not come directly from a known manufacturer. The reason? Suppose you are a wacko anti-gun nut with the same moral fiber as an abortion clinic bomber. Wouldn’t it be a great trick to overload some rounds of ammo and then re-sell it so that when the unwitting recipient uses it his gun explodes in his face? Great excuse to drum up some additional “guns are evil” press.
Your best bet is to find a friend that can make use of it.
What state do you live in?
In almost all states, you can sell to anyone privately as long as they are over 18.
@YoBob, there was actually an anti-gunner who was planning that before someone turned him into the ATF and he was charged
I was going to say junk it—but donating sounds good too. Hopefully, they won’t have to use it.
They will probably throw it in a locker and forget about it. What caliber is it?
The state police will probably end up destroying it. If you are going to just junk it, call your trash company and see if they will handle it or if you need to go somewhere else.
It is considered a Hazardous Material for disposal purposes. They don’t want it cooking off in an incinerator or under pressure in a landfill.
You have to take permission as well as need to get a license or you can buy, I have seen one ammo online site that provides quality and low price ammo product.
