Should a psychic be shunned forever after a prediction failure because such implies that they do guesswork?

Asked by Kraigmo (9421points) October 13th, 2010

Chile hired 4 psychics to find the trapped miners. Before they were found, the psychics all said they were dead. What are the names of these “psychics”? Shouldn’t a psychic be shunned forever after such a failure because it implies that they do guesswork?

The Chile situation is not the first time hired “psychics” have been wrong.

There is also the case of that girl in Utah who was kidnapped and who was missing for a year before being found. While she was missing, both the “psychic” and the “remote viewer” that the family hired, said that the girl, Elizabeth, was dead.

Is there a pattern emerging? Do psychics just predict what is most probable? Once a psychic says something with conviction and is proven wrong, shouldn’t they be publicly shamed? Shouldn’t people only say things with conviction, when they know they are absolutely right?

Perhaps these psychics are deluded and believe in their own powers.

As to should they be shamed, yes. Their spectacular failures should be brought up every time they try to get media attention for a “prediction” again.

Religious prophesies and “Facts” from holy books are equally inaccurate, but they are just ignored by followers for the things they got right or cheated in order to get “right”. Guessing, even when somewhat educated, always have a probability to fail.

People still believe in psychic ability? Oh wait….people still believe a man can come back from the dead as well…...so…..people actually hire psychics for important tasks like determining if someone is alive?!

@Blackberry A while ago I learned that a large percentage of Iceland still believes invisible elves live within the rocks in the Icelandic countryside. 0_o

No, psychics are entertainers, not predictors.

The people who hired them should be shamed.
