Why am I such a picky eater? Will this ever change?

I absolutely hate the fact that I am so picky. And at the same time, I really feel it’s out of my control. A lot of foods just repulse me. Some even trigger my gag reflex (cilantro, eggs). I don’t know what it is, and as the years go by I like less and less!
I have heard all kinds of stories “I used to hate a, b, and c, before, and now I love them all!” WELL, WILL THIS EVER HAPPEN TO ME? Let me just name a few things I can’t eat: eggs, cheese, tomatoes, avocados, onions, cilantro, basil, peppers, raw mushroom, whipped cream, MOST SPICES….the list goes on and on and as you’ll see some of these are big ones. eggs…used to love them. now i get a wiff and almost puke. tomatoes i don’t wish to ever enjoy, i find them repulsive. cheese is another big one. it’s in and on everything! i can deal with it melted, but not raw, EVER.
enough examples. i have heard that your tastebuds change every 7 years, but i’m in my 21st year of life and nothing is really changing. input? help?
i want to like all these things. i hate being picky. i hate having to dig through everything i’m eating to make sure there’s no onion in it. or tomato chunks. its time consuming, annoying, partially embarrassing…i feel like a 6 year old.

Did you have like a bad experience with any of the foods, or you just don’t like them?
I don’t know. You can slowly put a little amount of them in your food and get your body to adjust to them?
I’ve been told picky eaters are picky people (not implying that you’re a picky person)
but if so, try having a better attitude with life and see where that goes with your food…
Wow…you’re really picky….This is just an idea, but I think I became less picky when I started living on my own and realizing that I’ll take any food I can get. I went through a period when I was so poor I was eating a cheese sandwich for dinner. I simply appreciate food now. I tried new things I used to not like years ago. Now that I’m older and more open to new things, I try them; if I don’t like it, I simply don’t eat it again.
I know I’m really picky! I do live on my own, and while I’m not scraping change together to buy food, I definitely don’t have an overabundance of money…and I like to cook, so money does go farther when you’re cooking everything. Anyhow, that really isn’t an issue for me. I have heard that people become more open to new foods if they’re poor and have to eat anything. But I don’t have to…and even if I did, I still gaurantee I could not eat a piece of raw cheese! :[
@xxii ill look into that!
I guess I should also add: I am always open to try new foods. If I don’t like it, I just won’t eat it again. Unfortunately that’s been the case with a lot of foods.
How’s the broccoli treatin’ ya?
Everyone is picky. And your pickiness will change over time. Especially if you fall in love with someone who likes different things than you, and hates the things you like. Then it changes for both. But don’t be fooled into thinking your alone. For instance I hate : green peppers, cheese, rice, carrots, liver, and could go on but won’t. Alot of ppl have things they hate and are picky.
BTW cilantro is an herb that to some ppl tastes like soap, its just dna.
But don’t stop trying to eat the things you don’t like. Different cooking methods change the flavor and you might like it if its cooked differently, or you might someday like something you never did before. However if you don’t continue to try them you will never know if your tastes changed.
