Do you have a lucky superstition?

Asked by BarnacleBill (16138points) October 14th, 2010

Do you adhere to the superstition of saying Rabbit, Rabbit for luck on the first day of the month?

Or do you have some other lucky superstition?

My mother has always been about two crows flying means good luck on the way to the casinoes. Loll

One crow is sorrow, two crows are myrth, three crows a wedding four crows a birth, and if you see a crow flying towards the sun in the morning means that the weather will be fine all day, but if you see any crows near a river at nights its a sign of a storm brewing.

Googled the word myrth…found no definition, but must be associated with mirth!

Mentally chanting “Ashes, ashes…we all fall down!” when bowling. It helps to keep the pace when stepping up to the alley. I think I picked it up from a Tim Allen Show episode.

If I don’t get out of bed in the morning, nothing bad can happen to me.

Whenever I see a magpie, I say this little rhyme to myself:

One for sorrow….
Two for joy….
Three for a girl…
Four for a boy…
Five for silver
Six for gold
Seven for a secret never to be told

Here are the origins of this rhyme

I believe that walking into traffic without looking leads to unlucky events.
I believe that athletes who practice hard tend to be luckier in their contests.

I make a wish if I look at the clock and it’s 11.11, but I don’t necessarily believe in that superstition or expect my wish to come true.

@BoBo1946 My grandmother taught me this rhyme, and I have now passed it down to my daughter
BTW Your mother sounds like a very spirited lady :)))

@Pied_Pfeffer It’s mentioned in Family Guy anyway.

Ring a, ring a roses,
a pocket full of poseys,
ashes,
ashes,
we all fall down!

Stewie says it was originally written about the bubonic plague.
The episode continues:

It’s raining luggage,
and babies,
and limbs,
and daddy doesn’t come home.

Leading me to my conclusion: I will never get on a commercial flight and I’m assuming this completely saves my life.

Star bright, star light, first star I see tonight, grant me the wish I wish on you. A bird’s nest in a Christmas tree is good luck- I don’t get this one- bird lost his nest.
