Yeah, we’re talking the whole package here. From movies to actors or directors. Musicians to bands or songs. Sports events, sportsmen & women & so the list goes on, (takes a breath) Anything or anyone from anytime that you personally believe either didn’t live up to the hype. Or were/are simply way overrated by their peers. Away you go &.....good luck :¬)

Tiger Woods as for any athlete that makes over a million a year.
Every A list Hollywood actor. And, every face that appear in the National Enquirer.
Most sports…unless it’s Roman-Greco wrestling.Can’t over rate that ;)
Jennifer Anniston… besides Friends, what else has she been good in?
Angelina Jolie.
Her entire career is riding on a few poorly-acted movies, tabloid photographs of her kissing her brother, and five years of being constantly pregnant, and collecting adopting foreign children. I’m not impressed.
Brittany Spears. I have yet to hear her sing a song that doesn’t sound contrived and put through some synthesizer. It has nothing to do with good marketing and a controversial lifestyle. I just don’t see the talent.
A close contender is Paris Hilton.
Miley Cyrus
Justin Bieber
Taylor Swift
the cast from High School Musical
Angelina Jolie
Steel Magnolias – dumb movie.
Nine to Five movie – corny.
Brooke Shields – acting not so great.
Mia Farrow
Platoon – horrible gore – what’s the point?
Britney Spears
Hollywood and sports stars.
Seriously…all the idealization and glorification for tossing a ball around and acting.
I am not impressed by either and think it an atrocity the monies paid to such, rediculous!
I thought The Lovely Bones (book) was gimmicky and overrated. The Historian broke me of my compulsion to always finish reading what I start….before I finished the first chapter.
I could never ever get Andy Garcia.
Survivor
The Amazing Race
Almost all reality shows including all of the Real Housewives of . . .
^^^^^^ I agree w/your picks but I like “Nineteen Kids and Counting” “Sister Wives” and my fav: “The Bachelor/Bachelorette” Series.
the Roloffs in “little People Big world”. sorry they are just not interesting, certainly not even for a reality show.
Also, anything to do with Harry Potter.
Lady Gaga, Lady Gaga, LADY GAGA, LADY GAGA! YAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!
@lucillelucillelucille That or Sumo. Can’t beat watching two hippos…...I mean guys, clawing at each others nappies. Or as you might say diapers. :¬)
@Trillian Gotten to you has she? :¬)
Pole dancers. I mean, who knows where that pole has been or who’s used it before? Eewww.
@aster That might be the nicest thing anyone has ever said about Brooke Shields’ acting…
@hawaii_jake Interesting statistic: when you gyrate on a pole, you are gyrating with every person that pole has gyrated with in the last five years…
@ucme Clutching both sides of head, rubbing temples, bending over at the waist, breathing in through nose, out through mouth. Ok, yeah. You’re right. sorry. I’m ok now. Sorry everybody.
(Claps hands together and rubs them briskly, looks around.) Where were we?
@Trillian That’ll be a no then!! Her name puts me in mind of a song, oh you know. Wireless Baby! No please not the face, I bruise easily….nervous giggle.
I’m so misunderstood. What did I ever do to so often give people the idea that I’m about to erutpt into violence?
Matthew McConaughey
Leo DiCaprio
Michael Cera
Katherine Heigl
Jennifer Lopez
Justin Timberfake- there already was a white Michael Jackson and that quota has been met for the rest of time. ;-)
Jonass Bros- at least the above can carry a tune.
@Blueroses I used to feel the same about Leo, but after seeing him in the Departed I really changed my view of him. He continued to impress me in Blood Diamond and on the rare occasion that he was required to act, I liked him in Inception as well.
All that being said, even if I like him, he is still overrated.
@crazyivan I’ve liked him in some films too, but he never makes me suspend reality. Instead, I think “Hey. Leo’s not bad in this one.”
I feel the same way about Michael J. Fox, but I find him likable enough that it doesn’t matter.
Thanks all, some interesting examples there. Some of which I agree with. Now I feel it only fair to add my selections. So here goes, don’t hate me. They are after all just an opinion
Muhammad Ali : Certainly the most charismatic, but not the finest boxer you’ll ever see.
Elvis Presley : Hugely influential yes, but not the best of singing voices.
The Beatles : Glorified boy band, some good songs though.
David Beckham : Was once a fine footballer, but not exactly Pele.
Steve Martin : Not funny, can’t act & has all the screen presence of a wet sponge.
@ucme are you sure Steve Martin isn’t funny? Just checking.
Brett Favre
M. Knight Shabbadabbadingdong
EDIT: Jeff Dunham, the moron ventriloquist. Jesus I hate that guy.
@cockswain Midnight at the Lost & Found as I like to call him. One good movie that’s all, one!
@cockswain I’ll give an “amen, brother!” to all your choices but especially Dunham (and I’ll raise that one with a Larry the Cable Guy) What fuckwittery allowed them to make so many buckets o’ cash?
And whoever that Jack Daniels-drinking, Johnny Cash-wanna-be-looking redneck of that Larry the Cable Guy group is. He sucks too.
All spectator Sports, unless I know someone who is playing.
Any media-hyped celebrity.
The Three Stooges
Don’t be ripping on the Stooges.
Most professional athletes who are way overpaid to play a child’s game. As far as most celebrities of any type go they are all overrated and overpaid to me. Just appear on a reality tv show today if you want a future movie or talkshow contract.
Steve Carell. I know he has a fan base but I don’t understand why.
@Blueroses He’s a hell of a lot better than Will Ferrel.
Every single last rap “artist”.
The Beatles.
Anything Twilight or Harry Potter.
Nearly everything George Lucas.
Nickelback.
Any comedian who’s whole act is based on their minority status.
Nearly every single sitcom.
Tyler Perry Inc.
Madonna.
All generic flawless emaciated boobjob bottleblonde pornstars.
Mumblecore.
Al Gore.
Halo.
MSNBC.
@MeinTeil Several genres are overrated as a whole? That doesn’t make sense. Overlooking the fact that there is variety of content and quality within a genre, something can’t be overrated if it isn’t at least sort of known. I can guarantee you that there are sitcoms and rap musicians and even mumblecore that is just too obscure be overrated. It can’t be overrated if it hasn’t been noticed in the first place.
@MeinTeil The Beatles?!?!?! The hell you say…
@crazyivan.
The OP asks for not what’s bad,
Just overrated.
I don’t understand why people don’t like Angelina. Her acting is not horrible and is moving. She has done a lot to help out, like being an ambassador for refugees, and she has made that her mission in the past few years. How can anyone dog all the great work she has been doing?
If you say someone like Paris Hilton – I can understand that, but not Angelina. At least she has done good in the world and used her star power to bring to light her work for the UN. At least some Hollywood stars ARE giving back. So I disagree about what someone above said above her.
@partyrock
“I don’t understand why people don’t like Angelina.”
“So I disagree about what someone above said above her.”
It’s just that Jennifer has several accounts here. ;-)
