What do I do with all these green tomatoes?
The frost is coming and will soon kill my plants.
I have heard of fried green, but do they even taste good? Would you try to ripen them at this point? Should I just launch them at my neighbors??

We make green salsa with them.
Yeah I agree, just launch those suckers at your neighbours. Better still, at their windows while they sleep. Alternatively of course you could always have them fried…...at the….Whistle stop cafe! :¬)
What about dilled tomatoes? My dad would kill for a good one.
@JustmeAman -That’s sound pretty good! I will check out some recipes .Thanks!

Here are some tips on how to handle green tomatoes near the end of the season:
•To hasten the ripening of any remaining green tomatoes, give the roots a little yank to disturb them. This shock will send a signal to that plant that it is time to go to seed.
•Cut back on watering when the tomatoes have reached almost full size.
•Ripen green tomatoes indoors by placing them in a cool, dark place like the basement or garage or even in brown paper bags or on a tray covered with newspapers.
•Pull the entire plant from the ground and hang it upside down in a cool, dark place. As the tomatoes ripen they will fall to the ground.
OH MY GOSH!!! I am so jealous, because you can make Green Tomato Cake with Brown Butter Icing!!!! It is easily the best cake I have ever had! I make it every year toward the end of the tomato season, and it is to die for! When you see the ingredients, you’ll know why I only make it once a year. Holy butter, Batman!
It sounds strange, but the green tomatoes are just slightly tangy so they balance the sweetness of the cake. If you didn’t know they were tomatoes, you’d think you were eating an apple spice cake. I usually leave out the raisins and nuts. This year I made it to take to a cookout, and even though several other people also brought desserts, there was no leftover cake for me to bring home. :(
I did make fried green tomatoes once, and they were very good. My kids didn’t like them though, so I haven’t gone through the trouble since then.
You can also make Green Tomato Pie, which I have not personally tried. The recipe I linked to is very similar to one my grandma gave me, which her mom used to bake. She says it is a lot like apple pie.
wash them, slice them, drag them through a condensed milk bath, then a flour shower, then to an oil hot tub, drain, salt, enjoy. you can skip the milk step if you like. they taste vaguely like fried squash, more like fried eggplant. im from the south, we fry everything.
I agree with one comment above. Green tomatoes are the best for frying. I usually will beat an egg in one bowl while mixing corn meal and flour together in another bowl. You can add salt/pepper to the corn meal/flour mixture as well. I usually will slice the tomatoes, dip them in the egg batter then the cornmeal. You can fry them in olive oil or bacon grease. I do this with peppers too. Very good.
Pickle them. They’re delicious and will keep a good long while.
Fried Green Tomatoes taste similar to eggplant. You could also make chow chow.
I love fried green tomatos and I’m not talking about the movie!
How does one make fried green tomatoes? Do you bread them first?
I think so. I never fixed them myself. It’s been years since I have had some. My mom use to make them all the time when I was a little kid. I may find a recipe and make some myself!
i listed a simple recipe for fried green tomatoes above, but like all recipes you may want to jazz it up and make it your own…
