Any recommendations for a wireless router (most likely N) that works well with Macs (10.6) and PCs?

Asked by rovdog (842points) October 16th, 2010

Have a mixed network situation with macs and pcs- ever since I got my new mac running 10.6 have been told my router “doesn’t like my mac”. Don’t think I want to get an overpriced router from apple- any recommendations for a a wireless N (or G I guess- but I figure I might as well upgrade now if it’s B/G compatible too) that plays well with pcs and macs.

I’ve got a generic Linksis that gets the job done. Nothing fancy, but it works.

Was about 50$.

I tried Belkin and Linksys and both of them dropped my Mac (a LOT), so I ended up back on a Mac router. But that was about a year ago.

I have had great luck with Netgear. There are 3 Macs, 1 windows, and 1 Linux machine hooked up to it. Everything works well. I hate Linksys with a passion.

I’ve got two Macs ( wireless ) and three PC’s on D-Link. D-Link does not like VPN though. I’ve had it three years. It is only a “g” but hard wire is one gig.
It is x-Treme game router.

@johnpowell I have as well but you can’t set up a Netgear router on a Macintosh.

If you could do that, though, they’d be my number one choice.

@johnpowell Oho, didn’t know you could do that. I stand corrected.

@UScitizen – I’m interested in this, too, facing a similar situation. Could you elaborate? Your answer didn’t make any sense to me.

@UScitizen – yes, I googled it (after I asked that, of course). Thanks for the info, though! Looks like a lot more work than I care to go thru, however. I retired from that stuff – want it all out of the box, now! <grin>
