A rock!
Someone had to say it. ;-)
a turtle. After I got it we went to the shore for a week. My mother told me, “he’ll be fine” but I was doubtful. Totally dead when we got home as I had suspected. ); And as she knew.
To this day, I have never had an animal companion. I all but begged my parents when I was a kid. Now it is simply not within our budget.

We’ve had cats ever since I was a baby, but I’ve never had a pet that was considered “mine”. Doesn’t mean I didn’t take care of them (and I named a couple as well), but it’s not like I got a kitten for Christmas or anything.
As a farm kid, I had all the animals, favorite was a white bull calf I named Bimbo and used to walk around with him sharing the salt licks!! There were cats, turkeys, chickens, little Bantam chickens with one little colorful rooster who knew hoe pretty he was.

A neighbor’s cat had kittens when I was about eight. I brought one home for approval. I thought it was the most adorable, fantastic thing I could ever have. Mom said, “no.” I couldn’t accept it and decided to give it a bath. I took it upstairs, dumped it in the bathtub and turned on the faucet. It leaped out and ran off. I caught it and had to take it back. Major sadness.

My parents got me 2 dalmatian puppies when I was 3 years old.
My sister and I were allowed to get a gerbil each. Gin and Vodka created a breeding nightmare.
My pet green turtle whose name is lost in the mists of time although I remember that my brother named his Roy Rogers.
A turtle. I hid him under my bed until my mom cleaned my room and found him. I had to let him go. :-(
I had a pet ferret named Corky for my first pet.
It wasn’t so much mine as a family pet. It was a dog, an Alsation. My first OWN pet was a kitty.
When I was 5, I had a desert tortoise named Tanya. I liked to play with her and discovered that if I put a pencil in front of her face, she’d pee. Yeah, I dunno.
We always had a cat but my first real, all my own, pet was a little dachshund mix dog I named ‘Tammy.’
She was a sweetheart but died rather young, at around 11–12 I think from a tumor. :-(
Actually, I guess I’m wrong. My first pet wasn’t a dog, it was a horned toad. Three, to be exact, that I shared with my sister.
When I was born my house already had animals. We had Fred the fish. And Sabrina my puppy. And to cats Rebel a tortoise shell cat and Daytona a black cat.
Daytona R.I.P
Sabrina R.I.P

The first family pet I can remember is a cute, little collie puppy who never got the chance to grow up because he ran in front of a car. I wasn’t around at the time, so I didn’t have to live with the knowledge. We had a dog one day and no dog the next day.
The first pet that I can remember is a dog named Clancy. He was a Saint Bernard. I was 2 years old but he died by the time I was 4 ..from what my parents said was a “twisted stomach”. His grave post is still there in the pasture of the farm I grew up on.
I remember I constantly got goldfishes because they kept dying.
A Border Collie cross breed called Lucky.
