Does anyone know of a celebrity who faked being stalked in an attempt to resurrect their career?
From time to time one hears stories about real-life celebrity stalkers. These cases tend to draw quite a bit of media attention.
Has anyone out there ever heard of a celebrity—perhaps one whose career has tanked—that invented a ‘stalker’ in order to gain media attention and thereby resurrect their career?

24 hours later and still no answer. Perhaps it has never happened. Thought, it is hard to imagine that it hasn’t.
What about entrapment? I wonder if any struggling celebrities have encouraged a fan (leading him or her on) to the point where it could be made to appear as stalking—in order to gain attention.
Sorry about the lack of posts. You may be right; I did a search yesterday and couldn’t find any examples of celebrities claiming to have been stalked when they weren’t. This is the only thing I came up with…a name for it:
False stalking syndrome is similar to another disorder called “Munchausen’s Syndrome”, named after a Baron who was famous for outlandish stories that were so convincing that people believed him. People with this disorder will go to the doctor for treatment as a means to gain attention, sympathy and support from others. Some mothers will take their children to doctors for treatment that is not necessary – called Munchausen’s by Proxy. Source
David van Day (used to be a member of an 80’s pop duo called Dollar) dumped his grilfriend live on the Mathew Wright show on channel 5 (did happen I was watching as I do every morning while getting organised to scoot off to work) just to try to generate some publicity. You can actually watch it here and its also posted on the guardian newspaper website here It’s not stalking but pretty outrageous stuff all the same.
