If yes..have you ever found anything of any significance? All I found was pull tabs, tin cans, rusty nails, and screws.
Where can I go to search for old coins, rings and anything of value?

My uncle found a Rolex watch last week at the beach.
Come to Staffordshire, England, where the Staffordshire Hoard of over 5 Kg of gold and 1 Kg of silver, and valued at £3,285,000 was found last year by a metal detectorist.
I used to have one as a child, a toy one. the most i ever found where a few coins, spanish pesetas. probably less than 5 bucks worth, along with some cheap jewelery. i also had my fair share of bottle tops and scraps.
I am however thinking of buying another one. a modern one for $400 to $600. i hear they can differentiate between scrap metal and gold and are far more advanced than they used to be.
As for where you can go to look for old coins, i would say check your history books and old maps for your area. if you live anywhere near a river, chances are there was an old town there once.
If you live in the USA, then you obviously only have 200 or so years of coins falling to the ground. maybe you should look in to gold detecting instead.
Yes, several watches also gold and platinum rings. All at the beach.
My oldest coin find was a 1721 farthing located at a school playground in Connecticut.
Ask at your local metal detector shop when and where there is meeting of the local detectorists.
Yes I have one. Sadly I don’t have much time to go treasure hunting.
I have found a lot of old “junk” in my own yard and some of it, though not valuable, was interesting.
I have one. I have never found anything, then again i never search for stuff.
Thank all of you for responding.
