How much does this new 'Ugly Meter' app concern you?

Asked by troubleinharlem (7999points) October 19th, 2010

I think its pretty much asking for more bullying, but maybe other people have other opinions.

I think it’s pointless and they shouldn’t have it as an app anyway. If I was concerned about it affecting my kids I wouldn’t let them buy it.

idiotic, about as useful as spam that tells you your IQ or when you are going to die via text message. i imagine its about as precise too.

From what I’ve read about it, people don’t actually rate each other, the app scans for facial features and then gives a score (if it even actually does that). I guess it’s more of a joke than a serious app.

I personally think it’s pointless, but really not any worse than sites like hot or not.

It’s just something you share with friends that have a sense of humor. I have the “sexy meter” app on my phone and my friends play with it all the time. It list: ugly, average, cute, or hot. My friends and I see the humor in it, so we don’t take it to heart. I break the meter everytime I use it. :P

Another useless and pointless app.

Time to toss the iPhone.

Doesn’t concern me in the slightest. It doesn’t interest me personally, but this is just another example of people making a big deal out of nothing. I understand the hypersensitivity to bullying and it’s good that people are so concerned about it, but come on…this is clearly not something meant to be taken seriously.

Stupid and rude, like that fat app. I will judge you if you use it. :)

Someday, we’ll want the time we spent considering such…back!

It’s a $.99 application that measures structural symmetry from a photo. Ratings are on a scale of 1 – 10, with 1 being the best. It also includes a comment, of which most are silly insults. A photo of Brad Pitt netted an 8, with the comment, “You could walk through a haunted house and come out with a paycheck.”

Yes, some people will find it hilarious and take no offense. Since it appears that it will accept a photo of anyone and not just the user, I can see where it could be used as a form of bullying. But then, so can words and actions in general.

god, people think of the dumbest fucking shit today.

There are some really senseless apps, like the kissing one I saw on Ellen. Some are really useful, but some are getting out of hand.

It’s no different than asking a Magic 8 ball, “Is, insert name, ugly?”

It’s a novelty that would have already disappeared if the media hadn’t picked it up and began milking it.

Bunch of crap. I have boughten a lot of crap in my life. (magic eight ball, pet rock) So I can see people buying it. I just have out grew that kind of stuff.

I won’t know until I try it out on my photo.

Well, I am pretty ugly. But then again these apps have no “Al Gore with em” and do not accurately predict or prove ugliness. My vocabulary is as limited as the number of mirrors in my house.
