Have all Fluther questions been asked already?

Asked by flutherother (34933points) October 19th, 2010

You know what happens; you post what you think is a great question only for some ancient jelly to come creaking up to you to say they answered this very question back in ‘09 and something similar was asked in ‘08. Have all the good questions already been asked and if so do you think it is OK to ask them again?

No. Even if they have, there are plenty of new jellies around, and it’s good to get their input, too.

I don’t know, I’m not done asking yet, :)~

No. Lots of questions are circumstantial and it’s totally OK because different times call for different answers. Not all questions are seen by everyone so it gives those people a chance to put in their two cents.

No, there will always be great questions ! Just like in real life !

I’m pretty sure all the “is the world going to end on 12/20/12” questions have been asked, but not ALL questions in general.

There are plenty of wonderfully fresh questions that are asked every day.

As for the repeats, it is to be expected. Even if a Jelly knows how to use the search feature, it isn’t user-friendly. Even if someone with a question finds another that is similar, there may be a different twist they want to put on it or the responses posted don’t meet their needs. Or, let’s say I want to find out what brand of toilet paper everyone is using. I have little interest in reading the responses of a few people from two years ago in which half of them are no longer a member; I want to hear from the current ones so that I can inquire why they chose that brand over another.

I don’t mind if members reference an older posts if it is pertinent. When it is delivered with the implied eye-rolling and “here we go again” comments, either give an answer or don’t respond.

No. There are lots of questions in the world, and all of us have different interests, and want to know different opinions, and peoples’ opinions change. So even if you do ask the same question, you can get totally different answers than the ancient jelly did.

They have now, thats it.. that was the last question that needed to be asked.

Naa, there is plenty of questions still to be asked, like “if chuck norris could chuck norrises, how many norrises could chuck chuck” and so on. plus, some question i think can be asked over and over again. the world is always changing, and so will its questions, even if they are the same questions. asking “what can we do about terrorism” in the 80’s would have got totally different answers than if we asked it now.

Impossible.

Did @Aesthetic_Mess just call me an “ancient jelly”?

The world will never run out of questions. I also don’t think it’s a bad idea to re-ask old ones, because it’s nice to get new perspectives from new users, who would most likely never see the old question if it was replied-to. Only people already in the thread get notified.

(Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a way to see recent activity on old questions too?)

I do not believe so.

I’m not sure how I feel about
“some ancient jelly comes creaking up to you” . . .
don’t feel put down by seeing some old answers too.

YARNLADY's avatar

It sometimes looks like it when the duplicate questions show up on the list every single day.

There are enough other questions that I don’t just leave.

wundayatta's avatar

All except for two, and I’m saving them for the right time. And no, I’m not telling you what they are, no matter how much you beg.

This question again?

wundayatta's avatar

@AstroChuck is serious. Last time this was asked, though, there was only one question left. I don’t know where that other one came from. Maybe the moderators are doing something fishy.

I shouldn’t tell you this, but I knew of a question mine with a little side passage where there are still questions. They aren’t exactly lying around, but they can be found with a little digging. I’ve got a map to that mine I could sell you.

Paradox's avatar

No not even close. Unfortunately when a different topic is brought up no one wants to respond.

ucme's avatar

Nah, not even close. Just scraped the surface that’s all. There are many, many still to be asked…...I just can’t think of any right now! :¬)

talljasperman's avatar
