I think its a pretty cool idea in theory. Thing is, it doesnt acutally display the questions/answers that got the most GQ’s/GA’s it seems like it takes the best of recent, but definitely not the greatest. IE on my page, two of my “greatest questions” got 4 and 3 GQ’s respectively while I actually got far more than 4 GQ’s on some of my other questions. Is there anyway to change this so it actually displays my legit greatest questions/answers?

I have gotten more GAs from silly quips, I like the idea that someone sees some value in the others.
I think they explained that it’s only from recent weeks or months.
I went in and hid all the questions I did not think were worthy.
I think it takes the most recent by default to keep things rotating and fresh.
I also noticed that I very often notice who has reached a lurve milestone…what can I say? It’s a gift…
Here’s how the algorithm works: It tries to find questions/answers from the last 90 days that have at least a few GQ/GAs. If it can’t get all three from that time period it supplements those with the greatest ones from all of time. The reasoning for this is if it was just against all of time they’d never change and you wouldn’t learn new things about people by visiting their profile from time to time.
Here’s a tweak I’ve (personally) been thinking about (which may or may not happen): Allow you to choose your favorite questions/answers and we’ll pick from those (supplementing with our algorithm if you choose less than three).
@timtrueman ; Nah, i like to see what other people thought. My questions are generally info-seeking, therefore not that compelling. I’ll go with the way it is!
@timtrueman :: How about a little checkbox to toggle between ‘recent’ and ‘all-time’. Should be pretty simple with some AJAX.
@timtrueman what about an algorithm that grabbed a few and we could select which display. That way we can change it at whim. JP’s idea is cool too
@Dog Thanks for the tip. The more recent questions that are not worthy of showing have been hidden. Should someone look at the profile, hopefully it might generate additional interest in the ones I’d still like to receive feedback on.
I like JPs suggestion. My best question generated nearly 400 responses and it doesn’t show up.
@Dog also thanks for the tip. And I like @johnpowell‘s idea. I’ve been looking for my Jules Verne answer. I can’t for the life of me remember what it was and I’m curious about what the hell I said that got 20 great answers. Though it might have been from a 10,000k or 20,000k party. The lurve just pours out the tap along with the beer on those sometimes.
Yeaaaa I really dont like how its working right now. Two of my greatest answers are from party threads where its just a lurve orgy with a side of pancakes, my other “greatest” answer just happened to be a extremely simpilistic thing anyone would say in a popular thread. I just happened to say it first. Was that really a great answer I really dont think any of these answers really represent me at all. I know ive given far faaaaaaaaaar better answers than these on fluther before. I think itd be really nice to be able to pick from a list of your “best answers” to pick what would represent you best. It is your profile after all right?
