Do you regret thyroid removal and , if you do, why do you regret it?

Asked by Aster (20028points) October 19th, 2010

Has anyone had a thyroid biopsy and ultrasound come back reading “inconclusive” but had it removed anyway?

I can’t quite relate, but my wife was diagnosed with a thyroid condition and the doctor wanted to kill her thyroid and put her on synthroid for the rest of her life. She did some research and concluded she had a sulfite allergy. She told the doctor, who smirked and somewhat condescendingly told her she had hypothyroidism. My wife decided to just avoid sulfites. All the symptoms went away. She’s very glad she didn’t listen to her doctor, who just wanted to follow the standard routine and process her through. The symptoms of a faulty thyroid and sulfite allergies are very similar. I wonder how many people have had their thyroid killed for no good reason.

I’ve just been diagnosed with an enlarged thyroid. Are you saying that there could be a correlation to sulfites? As in bagged lettuce, cheap wine and so forth? hmmm. I’m using Raiki daily, as it stands.

@MissA I haven’t had this done, but i’d personally do much much more research before listening to a doctor advising me to remove something important. They don’t know everything, so it’s wise to do your own research on alternative cures etc first. That’s what i’d do, without exception.

@MissA I am definitely not giving you medical advice. This was the case with my wife and that doesn’t mean it must be the case with you. But research the symptoms for sure.

I’m for keeping my parts. I just had a lumpectomy on my breast and they wanted me to have chemo and radiation. I’m not doing that…and, without going into details about ‘why’, I’m happy with my decision. Thanks guys.
