Why do most radio stations have their talk shows in the morning?

Asked by awomanscorned (11261points) October 20th, 2010

the last thing I want to hear as I drive to school/work while I’m sleepy is people squawking about things I care nothing about. I just wanna hear music. And I don’t always remember my iPod or cd’s…

I would assume people don’t want to hear loud pop, rock, and rap music in the morning. People’s brains are still waking up and conversation is light; those things you don’t care about are actually important, but it depends on what talk show you’re listening to. The ones with the pranks are dumb, but many discuss social and current issues.

morning drive has the highest concentration of listeners kinda like prime time.

That is why there are some radio stations that play music during morning drive time. Just listen to those.

One reason I can think of is that people are more likely to call in while they’re stuck in traffic on their way to work, rather than in the middle of the day when they’re busy and not just sitting around.

It’s because there are probably more people listening as they’re driving or riding to work. I hate it too.

I would also guess that their target audience is adults driving to work.

Talk shows? I thought they were stupidity fests.

@noelleptc, sign up for Internet Radio.

This is why I love my iPod. I don’t think I’ve listened to any radio station in 3 or 4 years.

Unfortunately, noelleptc will not find any worthy music, unless there’s a college station in the area. There’s almost nothing good on FM or AM radio. It’s a bigger wasteland than ever.

Do any of your stations stream NPR Radio? Otherwise, podcasts over your iPod are probably your best bet for good “talk shows.”
