Here’s a list of very effective questions for you to ask them:
DISCOVERING NEEDS
What are your organization’s goals?
How does this position we are discussing fit into the goals?
What do you expect the successful candidate to accomplish over the next 12–18 months?
What is the biggest challenge that person will face?
What skills are necessary to perform effectively in this position?
What about my resume or background attracted your attention?
FINDING OUT ABOUT THE COMPANY
Why is this position open?
Is it a newly created position due to growth of the company?
What resources (budget, manpower) and authority go with this position?
Whose support is required to achieve the goals of this position?
To whom does this position report? How will successful performance be evaluated?
What positions might the position-holder progress to, based on a successful performance?
Ask yourself whatever the three questions you most would not want to answer are and craft good answers to those questions.
Read about the company and its products or services so that you are familiar with it.
Make sure that you have an outfit ready that will make you feel confident.
Shine your shoes, good handshake, make sure you bring a paper copy of your resume for each panel member (Even if you don’t need it, offering a paper copy of the resume makes you look prepared.)
Metrics and analytics – what’s tracked, how it’s tracked
Social media? Integrated into marketing plan or customer service? How do they view the interrelationship between marketing and social media?
What are their vendor relationships? How much work is outsourced to outside agencies?
How do they define their customer audience? What is their mix of B2B or B2C marketing efforts? How is that differentiated within the department?
At some companies, in order to advance, you need to move from marketing to other areas or divisions. How are promotions handled within marketing?
Opportunities to work remotely if needed?
In addition to the above… sometimes they will ask “Do you have any questions for us?” Try to think up one or two that involve the company’s direction and future. Shows you are interested in its progress.
Is it you and 4 others being interviewed, or you being interviewed by 4 people?
Either way, be confident but don’t be an asshole. Be funny but don’t be a clown.
So, you have an interview with a panel of 4 people on Monday, as I read the question. And you want to present yourself well. Most of the advice here so far is good and germane:
1. Bring 5 copies of your resume, one for you and one each for the panelists.
2. Shine your shoes, clean and press your clothes, and be careful on the way there not to get messy.
3. Don’t eat or drink anything beforehand that will manifest itself in your breath in an offensive way, such as garlic, onions, sardines, etc., and certainly no alcohol.
4. Be prepared to tell a lot about yourself (I like the idea of practicing on “answers to questions that you don’t want to have asked”; that sounds good).
5. Do have some questions for the panel, but be certain not to ask something that’s clearly answered on their web page, such as “how big is the company?” or “what are your primary products / markets / competitors / etc.” if that stuff is easily found elsewhere or in plain sight on their “about us” page.
6. Don’t talk about money at this interview unless they bring it up. Way too early for that discussion.
