An old ailment? What causes stuttering and have you known anyone who was cured? How?

I absolutely have not known a stutterer for 30 years! But if you have or do know one, and even if you don’t, do you know what causes it and how it can be cured besides with speech therapy?

I was in first grade, stuttered just awful, and had a lazy eye. My mom wanted me tested for special ed. I got in all right, in the gifted section. My teacher told my mom my brain worked faster than my mouth and that was why. I got new glasses, gifted classes, and now I’m teaching.
