Any that are unique? Did any of them spook you as a child?

The cemetery scene from Night of The Living Dead was filmed not very far from here in Butler, PA. The surrounding area is all winding roads and lots of wooded areas, generally creepy for driving around at night. They call it Zombieland even though it is really just a rural area surrounding a cemetery. Lots of highschool kids drive around there at night, it is supposed to be haunted, but of course it isn’t. The real horror comes from your friend in the driver’s seat driving like an asshole and causing you to fear for your life.
We also have an area called Five Points (it is off of Five-Point road), where supposedly a girl took her own life from a small bridge and now haunts the area. Another popular place for kids to drive around and behave badly. :)
I live near the California gold rush discovery site 1849
My community is rich with lots of local hauntings and ghost stories of the old 49er miners.
A local hub restaraunt and hotel claims several ghosts in their establishment.
This area was also home to several indian tribes and I often wonder looking out over my property if there are burial places under my feet, graves of who knows who and their story.
@TheOnlyNeffie ahh sh*t, i would move.
Hey, true story…like i would lie! But anyway… Came home one night and the doors were locked and we went into the den and our den was downstairs! We could hear someone walking around upstairs. I went up there and NOTHING. Doors all locked. I don’t live there anymore!
In Hawaii we have The Night Marchers Legend. People believe it too. They are ghost warriors that supposedly kills whoever gets in their path. You can hear them coming by the sounds of drumming. To protect yourself you have urinate in a circle around yourself and take all your clothes off and close your eyes. lol Growing up, I even remember teachers telling us in school how to protect ourselves like it’s totally real. Brutal, huh?
@TheOnlyNeffie Night of The Living Dead That’s awesome. I love that movie. Silly kids ;)
I found more online articles of legends that I would hear growing up.
THE MIDNIGHT STRANGER OF HALFWAY BRIDGE is the one that some people still today. I just read some of the others on this page. lol. I like the one about the vanishing chickens on that link. lmao.
Lets just say there were a lot of hangin’ trees around here, many a ghost on a rope. lol
When I was 7 or 8 then a cousin of mine was killed while playing on train tracks. Supposedly people see her ghost from time to time around there but no one in our family has.
A young, beloved school teacher was murdered in my hometown back in the ‘60s. The investigation pointed towards her husband as being the killer. He was tried and found guilty, although no motive was ever discovered and the evidence was sketchy. A few days later, he hanged himself in his jail cell.
Several years ago, Mom told me that the teacher, Beth, used to babysit for the three boys that lived next door to us. There was speculation by the mother of the boys that her husband was having an affair with Beth, and Beth’s husband eventually found out.
Ah, I just found a link to a site that doesn’t provide an answer, but supports the murder case.
I wish. Maybe there is but I don’t know how to get information on any of it.
Nef, i certainly understand…nothing like home!
This one’s actually quite horrible . . . apparently a girl was raped and murdered in the basement of our dorm building back when it was an apartment building. There’ve been reports of people waking up in the middle of the night being unable to move or speak, with a screaming sound in their head.
Also once, when I was in my the kitchen (of that building), me and my roommate clearly heard a rough loud whisper say “Why?” when we were standing by the stove. !!!!! We were re-assigned to the same building for this year . . . we sleep with lights on.
I’ve heard of the Yoho! I grew up spending summers on Tuckernuck. The statue is half hidden on part of the island, I can’t remember the exact location because it’s been a while since I visited the island, but it’s there… The legend is supposed to be that he haunts the island when the wind and fog come in, and that true Tuckernuckers can hear him calling in a ghostly voice. But, I was told growing up, that he protects the island and that if you rub his head it’s good luck. We used to sing a short song with it whenever we rubbed his head haha.
