Book and song suggestion! I'm bored!
Okay so I would like book suggestions that have to do with male adolescents with home life problems or drug problems or something along those lines.
Song wise, I’ll try anything that’s not country =] Sorry for all you country lovers but I like very, VERY few country songs!

@Pied_Pfeffer Thank you very much! I’ve never even heard of Less Than Zero! I’ll deffinately add it to my list!

@BarnacleBill I had actually heard the first two songs and let me just say that I LOVE the video for This Too Shall Pass! We did an art project like that. Obviously not that large but same idea! Thanks!
Once you are ready for a break from the utter sad and depressing, give Watership Down a shot. It’s an allegory with a fair amount of testosterone.
@Pied_Pfeffer That actually sounds really freaking awesome! I’ll deffinately give it a try. My Communication Arts teacher says that I get personification wrong a lot because I have a tendency to anthropomorphise. So it should be really interesting to read =]
@noelleptc I had heard all but Bent by Matchbox 20 and I loved that one! It’s really mellow, but with a kind of moving feel to it. I’m not sure if that made sense but I really liked it =]
Hawkes Harbor- S.E. Hinton

As far as books go… The Road by Cormac McCarthy and No Country for Old Men by the same author. I second Watership Down, too! And if you like comics, try Johnny the Homicidal Maniac by Jhonen Vasquez. Songs: Caring is Creepy by The Shins, Crooked Teeth by Death Cab for Cutie, and Dr. Worm by They Might Be Giants.
@furball11 That book sounds amazing. When I saw the author I knew instantly that it would be a good book to try. I loved The Outsiders and Rumble Fish. I’ll make sure to check that out!
@Pied_Pfeffer Haha yes and I loved it like crazy! Hated the movie, but I loved the book! It was great! It amazed me that a woman wrote it!
@Joker94 Wow I only recognized Death Cab For Cutie out of everything you said. I’ll have to check out all of that!
@noelleptc I really like their song Bleed which is ironicly what I’m listening to right now =]

@noelleptc Those songs are okay. Of those two I deffinately prefer Never Have I Ever. Haha are you going to see them then?
@Joker94 Oh wow you’re right I do like them. It feels psychidelic listening to them. I’ve never experienced that before. It’s freaking cool!

Are you interested in anything post-apocalyptic? If so, you might enjoy The Tripod Trilogy. It is below your reading level, and you could crank through them in a very short period, but they are worthy of a gander. Disney is supposedly due to put them out in movie form in 2012.
@tearsxsolitude They’re a great group, and I love pyschedelic/prog rock too :D
@noelleptc Not my favorite. I listened to the song Heaven. Is there a different one that you’d recomend? Haha wow you’re a die hard fan I take it!
@Pied_Pfeffer Ya I’d be willing to try it. It sounds interesting. I really liked the book Unwind by Neal Shusterman, it’s not really the same but it’s fururistic so I might really like that one as well =]
@Joker94 I’ve never heard of that. Is it like Dubstep?

@noelleptc Melody was really pretty! Lucky was good but Melody kicked all sorts of ass!

@noelleptc Oh I deffinately will! Thanks bunches by the way =]
@tearsxsolitude Err…I couldn’t say. Prog rock is very similar in nature to pyschedelic rock in structure and sound. Most often its driven by a swirled guitar effect with a liberal use of synthesizers throughout it.
@Joker94 Could you give me a few examples to try out?! Pretty please!
Abarat by Clive Barker. And listen to any State of Trance. Or Mana
@tearsxsolitude Gladly! I’d recommend Pink Floyd, try the albums The Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall, Wish You Were Here and Animals. I’ve been told the band Dream Theater is a great prog band, but I’ve never listened to them :/ Also, Smashing Pumpkins take a lot of influence from progressive rock bands, especially Pink Floyd. Two prog-styled albums Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and Machina/Machines of God. Of course, also try the Beatles albums Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Revolver, and Magical Mystery Tour.
For non-fiction, you might like The End of the Dream by Ann Rule, a true crime writer. Young adults, drugs, crime, and living in a tree house involved. I’ve read most of her books, and this one is one of my favorites.
@Joker94 Yay thank you soooo much! I’ll be sure to check them all out!
@Joker94 No problem! You’re bound to like some of them XD
@Pied_Pfeffer That sounds crazy amazing. Is it one of those books that you just can’t put down!? It really sounds like it!
@Joker94 I’m sure I will! They sound freaking awesome!
Song
Have you ever read Fahrenheit 451? That’s a good book, but it’s kinda depressing.
Books:
The Perks of Being a Wallflower—Steven Chbosky
Walking Across Egypt—Clyde Egerton
Songs:
“There Is a Light That Never Goes Out”—The Smiths (Death Cab for Cutie does a good cover version)
“Welcome Home”—Rehab
“Save Me”, “I Dare You”, and “Second Chance” by Shinedown
“Boy From School”—Hot Chip (also covered by Grizzly Bear)
“White Moon”—Beach House
@Whitsoxdude I actually hated the book Fahrenheit 451. I really liked the point that he was making but I hated how it was executed!

” The Adrian Mole Diaries” by Sue Townsend
“Heroes and Villains” by Steven Gaines
