What gives dead cats that distinct smell?

Asked by poisonedantidote (21680points) October 25th, 2010

What gives dead cats that distinct smell, is it a certain thing in cats that lets off that smell as they decompose, or a mix of everything?

Is there any way to harness and store that smell, perhaps in a liquid or powder form?

What would be the best way to totally hide that smell while the powder or liquid is in storage?

asked in the social section as i did not think the smell of dead cats would be a proper thing to ask in the general section, even though i am seeking a real answer

Careful with this… We don’t need a new Dead Cat Jelly Bean flavor hitting the market any time soon.

Perhaps you could wrap the dead cat in cloth and the cloth would become imbued with the smell of dead cat, but I don’t think it would strong or able to be dispensed.

Death. Sounds accurate enough, anyhow.

I have to be the one to ask.. but why in the world would you want to collect or distribute the smell of dead cat??

@TheOnlyNeffie To create a sort of stink bomb.

Where do you plan to get dead cats?

That’ll be the stench of evil. At least that’s how i’d cat-egorise it! :¬)

Hahahaha….I was going to say that the smell was the marinate but then I realized you were taking into the macab. You know you can bottle just about any smell. Just ask the folks who have bottled farts and lit them on fire later. They would be able to tell you how it’s done.
