Dream translators? Why do I continue to dream of a house I have never lived in?

Asked by janedelila (3914points) October 25th, 2010

It has extra rooms that are not apparent at first sight. It has a kitchen in the basement that turns out to be verrrry cool. Under the basement a trap door in the floor lifts to reveal (sometimes) bright light, outdoors, kittens, more children. randomly (wtf), The front porch is enclosed and has one window only that I see fleeting images through from inside the house. I can’t go out there, the porch or the outdoors. The second floor has bedrooms that I won’t sleep in but my children will (they are grown now but not in the dream). The third floor is so fracking scary, I feel that it is haunted, that I won’t go there, but there are bedrooms there too. I find bathrooms like old-style shower rooms from high school, no stalls just shower heads. I also find extra living rooms and sometimes windows. I dream this ALL the time! Anybody?

“To see a house in your dream, represents your own soul and self. Specific rooms in the house indicate a specific aspect of your psyche. In general, the attic represents your intellect, the basement represents the unconscious, etc. If the house is empty, then it indicates feelings of insecurity. If you live with others in your waking life, but dream that you are living alone, suggests that you need to take new steps toward independence. You need to accept responsibilities and be more self-reliant.

To dream of a haunted house, signifies unfinished emotional business, related to your childhood family, dead relatives, or repressed memories and feelings.”

They suggest looking under Rooms as well.

So you must have explored. You are curious about what lies ahead.

It has a kitchen in the basement that turns out to be verrrry cool.

You’ll be drawn to strange foods verrrry soon.

Under the basement a trap door in the floor lifts to reveal (sometimes) bright light, outdoors, kittens, more children. randomly (wtf)

You’re pregnant. Or you will have some new long term visitors staying with you soon.

The front porch is enclosed and has one window only that I see fleeting images through from inside the house.

Upon your pregnancy, or visitors, you will lose touch with the outside world, mostly.

I can’t go out there, the porch or the outdoors.

You can, but you won’t. You will concentrate on the visitors and leave the world behind.

The second floor has bedrooms that I won’t sleep in but my children will (they are grown now but not in the dream).

Ahhhh… Perhaps you will be required to assist one of your grown children soon.

The third floor is so fracking scary, I feel that it is haunted, that I won’t go there, but there are bedrooms there too.

Oh Jeez, you’re going to be a Grandparent soon!. Congratulations!

I find bathrooms like old-style shower rooms from high school, no stalls just shower heads.

You’ll teach your Grandchildren about old fashioned values.

I also find extra living rooms and sometimes windows.

You will be taken in by your children one day. Your elderly activities with your Children and Grandchildren will cause you to become more familiar with the outside world again.

I dream this ALL the time! Anybody?

No. I never dream this myself.

Can you leave? Do you feel trapped? You may be suffering from a subconscious anxiety about not getting out of the house enough. Or a yearning to get out of your usual habits and routines. Are your children ever present in the house? Do you feel abandoned? How do you feel about the house in your waking hours (during the day)? These are all important questions to reflect upon.

Here’s a guess. Because you haven’t lived in it. I have never found a house to be a dream after having actually lived in it for awhile.

Wow. I dream this too. Either a house or an apartment. Usually with some horrible flaw and/or some fundamental lack of privacy. I also kept dreaming about a house that included a hideous room I saw in a $10,000 sale house on Fells Point. A nightmare half public bath right in the entry vestibule, made of cement and filthy. All my dreams are dark and the rooms are dark and the sunshine is somewhere else in the place I can’t ever seem to get.
And always I lose even this in my dreams. BWAH!

@anartist do you sometimes find horrifying things under the floor? Or have extreme fear of a certain room or story of the house? for years I could not go to the basement of the dream house, there was a little door I was scared to open, then someone told me in real life I needed to open that door. I had to squeeze through a little teeny stairway to see it, but when I opened it there was a giant white head saying “I see you! I see you now!!”

@RealEyesRealizeRealLies I am already a grandparent 10 times. Can you tell me where you got this information or is it your own translation? And I must say I’ve been dreaming variations of this for years so I don’t believe it involves immediate change. People in it vary, sometimes I don’t know anyone, but in my dream I’ve known them for years and all the backstory involved. Am I just batshit?

@janedelila Wow, I’ve got to get my kids busy. I’m only 1 up on you. But I’ve got one son left to marry off. :-)

I think that the house represents both your person and your personality. You are investigating yourself and the dream is telling you that it’s time to grow in creative ways. You have ideas a’plenty swarming around in there (the children). The porch is suggestive of your relationship to the world. You see a lot of stuff out there, but it’s blurry. You can’t go out there suggests that you want to change your relationship to the outside world, but you are very wary of joining it. Or maybe you are shy.

The upper floors are memories. There is stuff there you haven’t dealt with enough to be comfortable with them. This is old stuff—a lot of memories. The bathrooms and living rooms represent different kinds of memories, some more open, and some that you may want to hide, but can’t. These are some of your older memories.

It seems to me that either you are or you want to enter into a time of more creativity. In order to do this, you are going to have to get to know some past stuff more completely. I think this should be a very exciting dream for you. I’m a bit jealous because this dream suggests you are close to coming into your own.
