Have any of you had success with Zumba classes?

Asked by essieness (7703points) October 25th, 2010

I took my first class today and wow! I was sweating like a ten cent whore on nickel night. I’m wondering if it will really help me slim down and tone up though. Any input?

I do it and I love it. Not enough to help me slim down unfortunately but it does feel like a good workout! I think if you do it more than once a week it would help; I do other exercise, but Zumba only once a week.

Dancing is generally pretty good exercise. The only successful and enjoyable exercise program I ever tried was a Jazzercise class but I did that three days a week and felt great. It obviously helped me burn calories but it also seemed to increase my metabolism because at some point I started dropping weight with very little effort at all. I had an instructor that I really liked though. She was very down to earth. Excessive perkiness annoys me and it seems to be a common trait in people leading exercise routines. :-) I would love to try Zumba though and was very disappointed to find that there were no classes offered in my area. I still look into it every so often to see if one has started up.

I Zumba 2 or 3 times a week. It should help you build stamina, and lose a few pounds. Unless you treat yourself after class with cake and ice cream. Same thing is always true, calories in and calories you burn determines how much you are going to weigh pretty much.

you’ve just reminded me about Zumba… I was going to get the DVDs a few months ago and forgot all about it!!... I have it on good authority ( @janbb ) that it is amazing….

Um excuse me but I found out that if you work hard enough in a Zumba class that you could burn at least 500 calories an hour.If you combine the classes with healthy eating you’ll probaly get the results you want.Keep doing the workouts you actually enjoy.Good luck.
