What are some good tycoon games you would recommend?

Asked by poisonedantidote (21685points) October 26th, 2010

Since the early 90’s I have been playing Transport Tycoon Deluxe, by far one of my favorite games of all time, and while I have not quit and never will quit playing it, it is not really something I always feel like playing anymore. So, I am looking for some new tycoon games to play.

When I say tycoon games, I mean real tycoon games, not a little action script game like farmville on facebook, or some flash game where you have to make cakes. I mean something that is at least 70MB or so in size. Something like transport tycoon or rollercoaster tycoon.

To save you some effort, here are some I have already played:

- Transport Tycoon.
– Transport Tycoon Deluxe.
– Railroad tycoon 1, 2 & 3.
– Startopia.
– Sim City 1, 2, 3, 4 and Sim City Soccieties.
– Zoo Tycoon 1 and 2.
– Casino Tycoon, Las Vegas Tycoon and Casino Empire.
– School Tycoon.
– Rollercoaster Tycoon 1, 2 & 3.
– Theme Hospital and Hospital Tycoon.
– Prison Tycoon 3 and 4.
– Several others that dont come to mind at the moment.

Also, I am interested in finding a game where I can own a space ship, travel in space, have fights and trade exotic goods. something like freelancer.

Finally, I am also interested in stratergy games, such as C&C Red alert and age of empires.

Thanks.

I love time management and strategy games. Great list. I built an epic amusement park in Rollercoaster Tycoon once. :)

Personally, Desperate Housewives was a lot of fun. It’s very much like The Sims. You can seduce and have sex with your maid. XD

And The Movies is brilliant.

Big Fish Games has a lot of time management and strategic games. Diner Dash is fun and they have several games where you have to help some people on an island survive – like My Tribe and Virtual Villagers. You can play as many of these games as you want free for an hour before you decide to buy them or not. If you’re a big gamer, then you can register as apart of the club so you can get major discounts on games. If not, I think they’re like $19.95 each.

Years ago I played Mall Tycoon and it wasn’t too bad. Check that out as well.

Check out the ‘X’-series, like freelancer, but much more in-depth.

also, I’ve had a LOT of fun with TTD, RRII, RCT1&2, SC3&4, what others would you recommend me?

If you want something on a grand scale, try a Paradox game. Europa Universalis III lets you take control of any nation in the world and play day-by-day between 1399 & 1899. anything is possible and there are loads of great mods (I like Terra Nova). Mongol Empire colonising N America? you can do it! (well, try)
If you prefer something more modern, they have some incredible WW2 games called Hearts of Iron. Fancy creating a hyper-fascist nuclear-capable pan-American Argentina?

Dynopark Tycoon is a good throwback. I don’t know the last year/edition that came out. But it’s AWESOME.
