Because of the economy what guiity pleasure did you have to give up?

Asked by Hypocrisy_Central (26879points) October 26th, 2010

When the economic down turn hit what was the guilty pleasure you had to give up? When times are better and money is flowing through the economy again will you take it back up or discovered you really did not miss it that much anyhow? If somehow the financial crisis was a boon for you and you made money and a good bit of it, were you finally able to indulge your long desired guilty pleasure?

I’ve given up pedicures, which I love. I’m very tight with my money, so that is about the only guilty pleasure I partake in.

Good beer. My husband and I would spend $14 for a decent 12 pk. We now spend $14 for a 30 pk of Old Milwaukee.

I did not give up anything. Gas prices went down as the economy turned down, and financially things got a little easier than the year before, and in the last year a lot of my food is cheaper too. The big negative is my savings earn so little interest. I think people who maintained their jobs and salaries don’t feel any negative effects from day to day, although I have lost value in the house I live in and my retirement accounts lost some money.

Eating in restaurants or getting takeout most days. Big trips. But mostly I cut back on wasteful things – for example, I cut an average of $20 per month off my electric bill by doing simple things like not leaving the TV on when I leave the room and using my laptop instead of my desktop computer.

@jonsblond I would eat beans and rice every night before I’d give up good beer.

@perg We’ve got it so bad, we eat beans and rice and we still need to buy cheap beer. Old Milwaukee really isn’t that bad. ;)

Buying digital toys and gadgets. All of my electronics are now at least 3 years out of date.

Friday night delivery pizza. Now it’s strictly cheeze pizza with homemade toppings.

Hypocrisy_Central's avatar

@YARNLADY Sometimes you can dress a pizza with your own toppings better than they can.

nothing yet. The economy is still doing ok in my part of the country. We also had a huge influx of BRAC people.

jonsblond's avatar

@YARNLADY We used to do Thursday night pizza delivery every week. We can’t afford it now. I do miss it. We can only afford it once every couple months now.
