Renovate my house, replace my cars, pay off my children’s school loans. That would pretty much take care of all of it.
I think $1,000,000 would be nice to have, and there are a lot of things that I could do with it, but I sure wouldn’t feel “rich” these days.
On the other hand, if I had $100,000,000, I could turn that into a fortune!
(1) purchase an apartment if feasible
(2) invest the remainder and live off the growth as much as possible.
Buy a new house and invest the rest.
If we’re talking about for reals, I would probably buy a house (one in the $400,000 range that I’ve had my eye on) and donate some of it to my favorite animal charities, go camping in Yosemite, put some of it in my IRA and take my large extended family out to dinner at a really good Mexican restaurant.
If we’re just talking about going on a spree, without any regard for practicality, I would probably rent one of those fancy motor homes and go on a trip across the country with 2 of my friends (they know who they are) and visit national parks, eat at vegetarian friendly restaurants and shop at thrift stores. When I got back, I would take my immediate family for a weeklong stay at the Ahwanee Hotel in Yosemite. Then I would buy a brand new pair of ice skates and skate upon a frozen pond or lake in the wintertime. And I would sample lots of cheeses that I’ve never tasted before.
Give my parents a huge heap- I really dislike the people they work for now,
I’d like for them to be able to get out of there, and give back to them for all they’ve
given me, and helped me out with over the years.
Give my sister a fair amount as well. She’s a good sister.
And I would pay off some school loans, and not worry about rent for a little bit….
Maybe still work, but just a little less…..Shop a little, Invest, and save some.
