What are your thoughts on the resignation of homophobic Arkansas school board member, Clint McCance?

My thoughts? It is a good start.

Thank goodness that he resigned and has no authority over the children in that state any more. He also apologized for his remarks. (Although I think that is too little, too late considering what he wrote.)

One wonders how an intemperate, homophobe got elected to the school board in the first place.

He was on Anderson Cooper 360 last night and, it appeared to me, that he was more concerned about “covering his a**,” than being truly sorry for his comments. Now, I could be wrong, just an observation. It was a good thing that he has nothing to do with children (by resigning) anymore, for sure!

Thank goodness! What an idiot! He is supposed to be an example for our children? Usually I feel a teacher’s private life is theirs (I realize he is not a teacher) but being hateful in a public domain crosses the line for me.

I wish the mayor in the town next me had resigned when he put on his facebook that we should go back to only giving the vote to land owners; another fuckhead.

I am glad he did the right thing and resigned. Had he refused, it seems there is no provision to remove a board member during their term in office. After having expressed the opinion that it would be good if perhaps one in ten of the students he was charged with educating and caring for just killed themselves, he certainly had no business remaining on the board.

This is all happening in my own backyard and I can tell you….that district office had one hell of a week. There are talks of a full-on anti-McCance protest, biplane and trailing sign included. Then maybe he’ll understand what it is to be shunned and ridiculed.

@SundayKittens I saw the parents of the boy on TV, and they asked that people don’t harrass McCance.

What boy? One of the boys who committed suicide? I see their point. But I want him to feel this deeply and profoundly. I still don’t think he gets it, and maybe he won’t ever get it.

If nothing else, this has shown people like Mr. McCance that there are an awfulllll lot of folks that won’t stand for that kind of ignorance.

Yes, sorry I was not clearer, doing two things at once. It was the parents of one of the boys who killed himself.

Unfortunately, I think the only lesson he will probably learn is to keep his mouth shut in public, I doubt his opinions about gay people will change.

@JLeslie I think you’re probably right. But at least the public, specifically people in our area of the country, will see how many people are appalled by this mindset and that it’s not okay….

I don’t think religious, hateful, fire and brimstone ignorant people give a shit what people think, if they associate those people with liberal, take God out everything, immorality. I know all too many people who are very PC, and know not to say things out loud, but behind closed doors are very narrow, hateful people. I am pretty much in your part of the country, I am outside of Memphis, in TN. Or, did you already mean you and me when you said our?

The best he could do was “I chose the wrong words”, “I didn’t bring honor to the situation”. Huh? I got your honor right here, bitch.

edit: I didn’t bother pointing out that he is a colossal piece of unintelligent shit for his statements about gays because that is painfully obvious already. Just illustrating that his lack of brain cells goes beyond just his prick attitude – he is truly stupid through and through. How THE FUCK did he ever get a job with the city in the first place? He should be picking up garbage on the side of the highway somewhere – during rush hour.
