If you just left home with your car set on autopilot, where would it go?

Asked by Jeruba (56061points) October 29th, 2010

If you backed your car out of your driveway or garage or pulled out of your street and set your car to head wherever it goes most often, which way would it go?

Is there one direction that you take more than any other or one destination that you travel to so frequently that your car could practically get there without you?

Probably the college campus. Even though I graduated 4 years ago I go there weekly for cultural potlucks and then additionally for other things. It is a nice place to people watch, get food, etc… And I co-chair an Alumni group so it’s where I drive most often.

My car takes a different direction almost daily because of the nature of my job. It’s been known to automatically go down the wrong path to a routine place because of the confusion of daily change. It drives me crazy when it automatically chooses the wrong path, as it makes me late instead of on time. (That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!)

I live a block from one of the main arteries in the city and close to the interchange of two major freeways, and yet if I just shut my eyes and let my car drive, it would go in one direction: south on Interstate 880. Probably 95% of my errands, appointments, shopping trips, and even my classes begin by heading south on 880. If my car goes AWOL one day, that’s where I’ll look.

South down 3A.

This takes me to work, my daughter’s school, my aunt’s, my mother-in-law’s, the city I grew up in and right into Boston (via Somerville and Cambridge).

Along the way there’s a car wash, a bunch of coffee shops, a CVS, a really nice lake anda great BBQ joint.

I spend most of my week driving up and down that stretch. My car would follow it like a blood hound after a steak.
