It’s ironic that people are free to take as many unhealthy condiments in fast food outlets as they like, but statins, which are beneficial to heart health, have to be prescribed, Dr Francis said

Ain’t that a crock… We can buy poison from any drive through window, but need a doctor to prescribe health on an individual basis. What’s wrong with this picture?

It makes sense to make risk-reducing supplements available just as easily as the unhealthy condiments that are provided free of charge. It would cost less than 5p per customer—not much different to a sachet of ketchup. When people engage in risky behaviours like driving or smoking, they’re encouraged to take measures that minimise their risk, like wearing a seatbelt or choosing cigarettes with filters. Taking a statin is a rational way of lowering some of the risks of eating a fatty meal.

That doesn’t really sound like a very good idea, to he honest. Statins are generally safe but can sometimes cause severe and even fatal side effects. There is also a possibility of interactions with other drugs that a person is taking, I would think and you would have no one monitoring people for that kind of thing, for serious side effect and bad reactions.

Statins are not the answer. Not everyone reacts well to these meds & they have been shown to cause a wide variety of side-effects, including pneumonia in some people.
