[Fiction question] What's it like in the aftermath of a face lift?

Asked by Jeruba (56062points) October 31st, 2010

No, I’m not contemplating having one, and I don’t know anyone who’s gone through it. This is for my NaNoWriMo story, and it’s only the beginning. (NaNoWriMo 2010 starts tomorrow, November 1st.) If this year is anything like last, I’ll be back with more.

I can find resources online that show “before” and “after” pictures—“after” meaning outcomes, long after the healing is done—and doctors’ sites that talk about how long to wait before going back to work, etc. But I haven’t found the kind of information I’m looking for: how it feels right afterward, how long you’re dependent on someone else for care, how soon you can get up and walk around, how long before your new face completely emerges.

My character is in the transitional phase, feeling well enough to get around but still looking disfigured. I have a lot of questions and would like to know where to go for good information.

If you’ve had a face lift and don’t mind being my source, please PM me if you’re shy. I won’t give you away.

Here is a web site that has some interesting stories from people who have gone under the knife, particularly the one from Angellady 65. There are some tips for pre- and post-operation with reasons for each that could provide some material for a realistic work of fiction. She also posts photos as she heals that could aid in describing appearance.
