Does Blue Cross Insurance have money to burn?

Asked by john65pennington (29273points) November 2nd, 2010

I still do not believe this. In my mail, Blue Cross sent me food store coupons! I wonder how much this cost to print and mail to each customer of Blue Cross Insurance? Coupons for money off on soup, tuna fish and the Olive Garden Restaurant. Now i understand why my health insurance is so expensive. Question: Does Blue Cross Insurance have money to burn? Instead of food coupons, why didn’t Blue Cross Insurance give its customers a reduction in their health insurance premiums?

They have maybe done a deal with these companies. We’ll promote you to our clientele if you give them a discount. The Blue Cross executives likely get something out of it as well.

Did you know that the Civil Service and Military uses Blue Cross so you can imagine how much they get from that contract? If the Federal Government was giving you their premiums you would appear to have money to burn what they do not tell you is the Government is out of money as well but they keep spending like they have a lot.

They are an insurance company. Having in cash reserve, that which equals the total amount of what they insure. That is why banks and insurance companies are basically one and the same.

So yes they have plenty to burn.

@JustmeAman The military uses Tricare, not Blue Cross.

I would guess that Blue Cross made some kind of deal with those companies they sent you coupons for. Most likely, those companies gave them the coupons to mail to their customers (so their only expense what the envelope and postage).

It costs them very, very little. Why do you think there’s so much junk mail? In fact, as others have said, they most likely have deals with the companies the coupons are for, so they might even make a little money.

Why the moderators? That information was good for some to know. Oh well the cut things that don’t matter and sometimes things that do. Heres another to cut.
