No. I don’t think there’s anyone I would a suitable mentor for, and I’m a bit to old to be a protege at this point.
I was someone’s minion for a short time but it didn’t really work out; creative differences; you know how it goes, plus I had some issues with punctuality, insubordination, it turned out that I’m not really cut out to be a sycophant, and, O.K., so I took a couple of packages of post-its, big deal. It got kind of ugly. :-)
You can be my mentor, @bob_ – I’ll even put a bob thingee as my communicator in your honour. But first, as my mentor, how do you get the “e” in protege to have the french thingee on it? Thanx. ;-)
Part of my job title is actually “mentor”. So yes, and for about a dozen kids.
Not right now, but I have mentored people at work before. It’s a role I enjoy.
I suppose by default i’m a mentor to my kids, which suits me just fine. As for a protege, when I was at school this one teacher recognised my talent for running & rugby. He’d have me running around our school track during lunch breaks & often after school, same with rugby. Trouble was I fucking hated both. Didn’t stop him from working me like a bitch for several years. I told him I hated rugby in particular, he shrugged his shoulders telling me he didn’t care. I was good enough so I was in the team for the good of the school whether I liked it or not. So yeah, a very reluctant protege. That was longer than I meant it to be, speech over.
I’ve been both at different times in my life. Though I’m pretty old to be a protege these days, I’d still gladly sit at @Jeruba’s knee and let her mentor me.
Thanks for the insight! Thats awesome…
:) Seriously though… that was the coolest insight… never really thought of it that way!
My son makes me who I am today thats for sure!! And hopefully I help make him the best he can be..
I’m not either, but I did have to train someone at work some years ago, lawl.
