(NSFW) What exactly are "lesbian acts" in this context?
So I was reading this and at the end, the total is “Four acts of masturbation, two makeout sessions, four acts of lesbian sex, one act of cunnilingus (giver).” Since cunnilingus is counted separately, I’m totally confused as to what “lesbian sex acts” is. Is it all acts of lesbian sex that aren’t cunnilingus, or fingering, or what? Freaking kids and their slang these days…
Also, when she says “riding”, is that frottage, or something else? Why doesn’t this diary adhere to the terms one finds in crappy internet fan-fiction???

Could be scissoring. But maybe that’s what you meant by frottage…? I’m not well versed in this either.
I think that the writer intends “lesbian sex” to refer to an approximation of hetero sex. That is, scissoring or frottage, in which both women’s genitals are in contact.
That’s what I get from it, considering cunnilingus and fingering are, apparently, different from sex (at least for the writer). I’m not sure what she’d consider penetration with a sex toy… but that doesn’t come up in the column.
Also, I think that everyone’s ideas of sex (hetero, homo, or bi) are subjective. One person might consider oral sex “sex”, while another believes that it’s only “sex” if penetration is involved.
@Seelix True, but if she’s bi, she probably considers oral to be sex. Most who are bi wonder at least for 5 minutes if they’re gay, and if oral isn’t sex, then lesbians never loose their virginity.
@fundevogel I’ve never heard of scissoring outside of hetero people who have no idea how lesbians have sex. So mostly South Park and jokes about South Park. I don’t know how I would go about scissoring with another woman.
Oh, girl.. you got lesbian sex questions, you should just ask! Hahaha.
I find that even gay people have very different definitions on what constitutes ‘sex’. The last girl I slept with maintained that it wasn’t sex unless someone went down on her and she got off. My opinion is that if one of the parties has an orgasm, it’s sex. Anyway, definitions/opinions vary.
Scissoring.. well, I think the people who use this term aren’t entirely clear on what it means and often confuse it with frottage, which causes more confusion for everyone. While I have engaged in the act of scissoring (a term I hate, by the way), I hadn’t heard the term until maybe a couple of years ago. Make a V (or peace sign) with both hands and then put one V inside the other, fitting the two Vs together at the crotches of each, kind of like an X. The purpose is full-contact vajayjay rubbing. Honestly, though, as much attention as scissoring gets (people seem especially fixated on it), in my experience, it’s not that commonly practiced. It does feel really good and can be supremely hot with the right person, but it is a rather awkward position that’s hard to keep up for very long.
In the context of this story, I would guess that ‘lesbian sex acts’ would mean fingering, touching, and rubbing/frottage, seeing that she made cunnilingus a separate category. I was intrigued by this sex diary and read a bunch more; it would seem that in the final tally, each person includes oral sex as a separate category, so this is not just a lesbian sex thing or the diarist being odd.
I’m a bit confused by ‘riding’, as I usually associate this with female superior penetrative sex, and it didn’t sound like there were any toys involved. So my guess on this is that the riding involved finger penetration and/or on-top frottage.
@papayalily I first encountered the term in reference to the origin of the Scissor Sister’s name so it isn’t just confused straight people using the term, though I wouldn’t be surprised if the reference was ironic.
@MissAnthrope I didn’t think it was an offensive term, is it just one of those words that bothers you personally? Kinda like how I can’t stand “va-jay-jay”?
@fundevogel – I don’t think it’s an offensive term.. it’s just one that I hate, like how most women hate the word ‘moist’. I think it’s because I find there to be an abnormal fixation on the practice (abnormal in that the frequency in which it’s discussed is very disproportionate to how often it’s actually practiced) and I am grossed out and turned off generally by men’s fascination with all things lesbian.
We women really have such a limited amount of synonyms for our ladyparts, especially in comparison to men. ‘Vagina’ just sounds ugly and clinical. ‘Pussy’ is too dirty and too charged to use in normal/polite conversation, as are many of the other words. I have a pretty good connotation of the word you don’t like (I won’t repeat it out of respect), in that it was coined by a very woman-positive TV show that I love (Grey’s Anatomy), which – amusingly – got chided by the FCC for using the word ‘vagina’ too much, so they invented their own word.
@MissAnthrope Thanks for the clarification, I just don/t like how the word sounds, its too much like baby-talk for my tastes. I’m not really bothered by most of the terms for our lady parts, but then I’m pretty determined to divorce even the most reviled terms from their pejorative usage.
@fundevogel I hate the term va-jay-jay, too. It sounds like baby-talk made up so that women don’t have to really think about having such a horrible thing. Like when you give an 11-year-old girl really pretty Hello Kitty tampons (on the wrapper, not the inside…) so that she doesn’t have to deal with being a woman.
@MissAnthrope I would have just PMed you, but you’ve been so absent…
I know gay people have different definitions, but I haven’t met one that thought that penile-vaginal intercourse was the only way to have sex.
I hate the term scissoring, too. I’ve never once said to a woman “I wanna lick you till you redacted, and I wanna finger you so hard that you redacted, and then I’m going to scissor you”.
So, then how is scissoring not frottage? Does it have to look like this or are all vagina-to-vagina positions considered scissoring? Does it have to be vagina-to-vagina, or is clit-to-clit included? Or is that some other name?
@papayalily – My understanding of the definition of ‘scissoring’ is that it is the position shown in your Wiki link. But.. I am a little unclear, myself, because I keep finding different definitions, some say clearly that it’s the rubbing of the vulvae together (like that picture), but then others extend the meaning to include the rubbing of the vulva ‘against [the] partner’s body’. Which sounds like dry humping, frottage, whatever.
I agree that it’s all very confusing and that we really need to come up with some standard terms. Ha.
@MissAnthrope Right?? I saw one recently (that looked really fun…) where… You know when you were a kid, and you and another person would get on a swing facing each other, and be “spiders”? There’s no interlocking legs in that, but it does the exact same thing without all the awkward, creating more of a cowgirl position. So would that count?
Standard terms, yes. In The Big Book Of All Things Lesbian. And we won’t let men or straight women buy it – you have to prove your lebianness. Because I’m just kind of in a dick mood today.
@papayalily – I don’t know.. I’m not the best at visualizing. I guess it would depend on two things.. the mechanics (of what was touching what) and whether your definition of ‘scissoring’ includes variations on the vulvular rubbing. that’s a fun word, vulvular.
