What does "dressing appropriately for the occasion" mean to you? I am asking because some people argue about it?

Is dressing appropriately for the occasion a debatable thing between adults? I don’t mean between a parent and a child who needs supervision etc. Barbara Walters was trying to convince Sherri, Elizabeth, and even Joy about it. Granted the trio were just making excuses for it, not so much against it.

To me, it means exactly what it says, wearing clothing that is appropriate for the place I’ll be. I wouldn’t wear a ball gown to a monster truck rally and I wouldn’t wear jeans and a t-shirt to a 5 star restaurant.
Most of the time it means wearing clothes that cover more rather than less skin. No tube tops at funerals (I’ve seen it), that kind of thing.
Agreed with the above. There are people though who have no idea what “appropriate to the occasion” is….re the tube top at funeral.
Wearing something simmilar to what the majority of other people are wearing. If in doubt I wear a shirt, black (or dark) trousers and a pair of brouges.
I am trying to find a link to the episode of The View”. What do you make of why Sherri Elizabeth and Joy found it debatable? Are they scared of stating the obvious? It is about the female sports journalist having gone into the locker room with mini skirt….(a week or so ago)
My ex-wife’s best friend wore a mini-skirt to our wedding! WTH!! I wanted to kick her out but all the guys wouldn’t let me!! XD
Yep, there are people who don’t have any idea, they need a lot!!! of attention. And maybe in our youth we were immature enough but how could people who are on The View be arguing the concept of it? I don’t mean that show is above standard or even standard.
