I tried to go through TMobile’s update (stupidly thought it would be easier) but they say the updates are sent by Google and Samsung and they have no idea when they will be sent, but meanwhile I must pay $30 per mo for the data plan in order to receive the updates.
Ive read in various places it is possible to root the phone or something and do a workaround to install Android. I started to try this but didn’t get anywhere.
Anyone happen to know the procedure?

Well, from what I see, it already runs Android.
What I really want to know is why you would want 1.6 on it rather than 2.2. Care to explain?
Mine isn’t running Android ATM. I just got the first update which is something else, which you apparently need before getting the Android update. I don’t think the Behold 2 came preinstalled with Android. It is an update they rolled out after the fact.
With the Behold 2, TMobile and Samsung originally promised to roll out an additional update for v2.2. However they changed their mind – pissing off people all over the internet it seems – and decided that 1.6 is as far as they would go for this phone. It may be possible to do some kind of work around to get 2.2 on the phone but I have not found anyone that knows how to do it. There was one guy that figured out a workaround for 1.6 but I got stuck part way through and it wasn’t working for me plus it is super time consuming, although at this point perhaps less time consuming than dealing with TMobile customer service.
